Synopsis Broken Bonds by : Keri Arthur
The winds of change are finally whispering through the Faelan Werewolf Reservation… Lizzie Grace is doing her utmost to ignore the portents of doom, wanting nothing more than enjoy her life and her time with Aiden O’Connor while she still can. But the song of the once unprotected and very powerful wellspring still washes across the distant shores of darkness, and it continues to draw evil to the reservation. The one that arrives this time is different from the others. Not only is it skilled in magic, but its kills are very specific. Very targeted. As the brutal deaths mount up and she, Monty, and Aiden struggle to find answers and stop the killings, Lizzie begins to suspect there’s more to this particular evil than meets the eye. Especially when it helps save the life of a child. But the biggest threat to Lizzie comes not in the form of evil, but rather the changes whispered on the wind. Because the werewolf Aiden once asked to be his wife has finally arrived back in the reservation. And she’s determined to get her man.

Synopsis Broken Bonds by : Jennifer Lahl
Around the world thousands of couples and singles procure babies through surrogacy arrangements. Many people see surrogacy as driven by compassion for those who desire a baby. But where is the compassion for the 'surrogate' mothers and their babies? Who are the faceless, nameless women who grow the babies in their bodies and give birth to them? Women who are left with empty arms and leaking breasts after delivery? The surrogacy industry calls them special angels who make miracles possible, giving an extraordinary gift. IVF clinics call them gestational surrogates. The intended parents have promised healthcare, full reimbursement of costs, extra income and ongoing contact with the baby. What could possibly go wrong? Everything. Because surrogacy violates the human rights of the women whose bodies are used, and the rights of children who are traded as commodities. Because it is a fundamentally flawed and misogynist concept to imagine that women are interchangeable. And it is wishful thinking that regulation can fix this. All surrogacy needs to be stopped. In this book, strong and courageous women from the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, India, Romania, Hungary, Georgia and Russia share their stories of becoming 'surrogate' mothers and egg 'donors'. Their accounts are tragic, shocking, and reveal a profit-driven industry that preys on desperation and womens kindness.

Synopsis Continuing Bonds by : Dennis Klass
First published in 1996. This new book gives voice to an emerging consensus among bereavement scholars that our understanding of the grief process needs to be expanded. The dominant 20th century model holds that the function of grief and mourning is to cut bonds with the deceased, thereby freeing the survivor to reinvest in new relationships in the present. Pathological grief has been defined in terms of holding on to the deceased. Close examination reveals that this model is based more on the cultural values of modernity than on any substantial data of what people actually do. Presenting data from several populations, 22 authors - among the most respected in their fields - demonstrate that the health resolution of grief enables one to maintain a continuing bond with the deceased. Despite cultural disapproval and lack of validation by professionals, survivors find places for the dead in their on-going lives and even in their communities. Such bonds are not denial: the deceased can provide resources for enriched functioning in the present. Chapters examine widows and widowers, bereaved children, parents and siblings, and a population previously excluded from bereavement research: adoptees and their birth parents. Bereavement in Japanese culture is also discussed, as are meanings and implications of this new model of grief. Opening new areas of research and scholarly dialogue, this work provides the basis for significant developments in clinical practice in the field.

Synopsis Broken Bonds by : Mitch Pearlstein
The United States has the highest family fragmentation rates in the industrial world. Nonmarital birth rates for the nation as a whole are 40%, with proportions dramatically higher in many communities as defined by race, ethnicity, or geography. Divorce rates, while moderating in recent decades, are still estimated at about 40% for first marriages and 50% for second ones. Together, this fragmentation impacts millions of children as well as adults, leading to educational, economic, and other losses that in turn lead to lower social mobility and deepening class divisions. In Broken Bonds, Mitch Pearlstein explores the declining state of the American family and what its disintegration means for our future. Based on candid interviews with forty leading family experts across the political spectrum - from Stephanie Coontz, to Heather Mac Donald - Pearlstein ruminates on the political, social, and spiritual fallout of this trend. In honest and frank conversations, Pearlstein and his interviewees fearlessly diagnose the problems that many have been too timid to explore and suggest ways to reverse these trends that threaten our social fabric.
