A major premise of the book is that teachers, school leaders, and school support staff are not taught how to create school and classroom environments to support the academic and social success of Black male students. The purpose of this book is to help champion a paradigmatic shift in educating Black males. This books aims to provide an asset and solution-based framework that connects the educational system with community cultural wealth and educational outcomes. The text will be a sourcebook for in-service and pre-service teachers, administrators, district leaders, and school support staff to utilize in their quest to increase academic and social success for their Black male students. Adopting a strengths-based epistemological stance, this book will provide concerned constituencies with a framework from which to engage and produce success.

Realizing the brilliance, dignity, and morality of black males in education.

Black Love Matters is an in-depth qualitative analysis that focuses on a diverse group of adult black men and their attitudes towards behavior in marriage and romantic relationships. To give voice to the men’s narratives, Black Love Matters follows the men for four years, chronicling the experiences and the circumstances shaping their relationship trajectories. Highlights include discussions related to the roles that sex, infidelity, intimacy, trauma, family of origin, masculinity, and environmental factors play in the men’s attitudes and behaviors. Given the dearth of literature on black men featuring first-hand accounts from them, Black Love Matters makes a significant contribution to the existing literature that seems to be disproportionately focused on implicating black men in discussions of what ills their families and communities.

In his new book, the author of the bestseller Why Race and Culture Matter in Schools examines the chronic under-performance of African American males in U.S. schools. In Chicago a.k.a "Chiraq," the first ten days of 2016 yielded 120 people shot. Baltimore's 2015 ended as its bloodiest and deadliest year - on a per-capita basis. In 2014, Detroit's police chief called upon law-abiding citizens to take arms against its burgeoning, violent, criminal subculture. Unfortunately, these cities aren't anomalies. Year after year, a seemingly unshakable reality of violence plagues black communities nationwide. In fact, since 1980, blacks have routinely accounted for almost half of America's annual homicide victims and more than half of the perpetrators - all while being a minor thirteen percent of the national populace. Yet, a certain black-based industry - which specializes in nurturing comfortable lies while burying uncomfortable truths - propagates a notion that "racism" is the foremost issue facing black Americans, and white cops are blood-thirsty enforcers. Moreover, this cunning, race-peddling entity knows it's easier to lie to blacks than convince blacks they've been lied to. Thus, black "lies" are good for business while black "lives" are good for nothing except exploitation. And presently, business is booming.

"Antwaneisha," "Brionshay" and "Tayvion"--for some, pronouncing these names are a daunting task, and for others, it's a symbol of cultural identity. Black Names Matter: The Black Names Book defines names commonly referred to as "Ghetto," "Ratchet" and "Hood," in American society by dissecting them. The lesson that the book teaches is that the majority of "Black Names" aren't African, but are unique names that come from combinations of two or more names, names constructed with common prefixes and suffixes, and much more. In many cases, names are "conjugated" with a formula that can be applied to names such as "DaNiqua," "LaNisha," and "Tayshaun." The book also contains research on the impact Black names can have on getting a job interview. In addition, the book has a glossary of "common" American names from which Black names are derived. Black Names Matter: The Black Names Book is the first installment in what may be an ongoing investigation into unique naming conventions used by different ethnic groups in America.
