Synopsis Biosensors 92 Proceedings by : W.R. Heineman

Keeping up to date with new biosensors developments has been getting harder ... – one of the fastest moving fields of academic and industrial research in the world – a constant stream of new commercial applications – centres of research excellence all over Europe, North America and the Pacific Rim – enormous implications for monitoring personal health and fitness, the food we eat, the environment, health services and industry The answer came on 20–22 May 1992, with BIOSENSORS 92. With a core of invited speakers and over 220 original contributed papers from 24 countries, BIOSENSORS 92 was the largest and most comprehensive event of its kind – a response to the growing importance of biosensors as a powerful new technology. Elsevier Advanced Technology, the organizers of BIOSENSORS 92, have now published the proceedings of this important event. Biosensors 92 Proceedings contains over 150 papers presenting current research and developments straight from those who are leading the way in: – Enzyme–based Sensors – Affinity Sensors – Environmental Monitoring using Biosensors – Biosensors and Bioelectronics Biosensors 92 Proceedings – Your key to current awareness in sensor technology for just £90 [dollar rate subject to current £/$ exchange rate].

Synopsis Uses of Immobilized Biological Compounds by : George G. Guilbault

In Uses of Immobilized Biological Compounds the reader will find a comprehensive survey of the field written by acknowledged experts who met in Brixen, Italy, between May 9 and 14, 1993 for a NATO Advanced Research Workshop devoted to the topic. The resulting volume presents a critical review of the latest results in the area and sets guidelines for future research. The 53 reports presented here cover: (A) General Aspects of Immobilizing Biological Compounds; (B) Medical, Clinical and Pharmaceutical Applications; (C) Electrochemical Biosensors; (E) Defense Applications; (F) Immunosensors and Receptors; (G) Food, Environmental, Clinical and Analytical Applications; and (H) Biotechnology and Marketing. In short, all aspects of the area are presented, in a compact format which will appeal to undergraduates, technicians, and professional scientists in the food, clinical, environmental, pharmaceutical and industrial fields.

Synopsis Trends In Electrochemical Biosensors - Proceedings Of The Conference by : Giacomo Costa

This book gives an overview of the present trends in a rapidly growing interdisciplinary field, namely the research and development of biosensors. It focuses on the development of new biosensors which combine the sensitivity and specificity of biological systems (enzymes, immunosystems, microbial cells, tissue, plants, etc.) with the efficiency of electrochemical transducers. The molecular mechanisms of the processes in biosensors as well as the new methods for transduction and immobilization of biosystems are described in detail. Also, important fields of application are evaluated, i.e. medicinal chemistry including in vivo monitoring, environment pollution monitoring, biotechnology process control, determination of food contaminants and food quality control.

Synopsis Biosensors for Security and Bioterrorism Applications by : Dimitrios P. Nikolelis

This book offers comprehensive coverage of biomarker/biosensor interactions for the rapid detection of weapons of bioterrorism, as well as current research trends and future developments and applications. It will be useful to researchers in this field who are interested in new developments in the early detection of such. The authors have collected very valuable and, in some aspects indispensable experience in the area i.e. in the development and application of portable biosensors for the detection of potential hazards. Most efforts are centered on the development of immunochemical assays including flow-lateral systems and engineered antibodies and their fragments. In addition, new approaches to the detection of enzyme inhibitors, direct enzymatic and microbial detection of metabolites and nutrients are elaborated. Some realized prototypes and concept devices applicable for the further use as a basis for the cooperation programs are also discussed. There is a particular focus on electrochemical and optical detection systems, including those employing carbon nanotubes, quantum dots and metalnanoparticles. The authors are well-known scientists and most of them are editors of respected international scientific journals. Although recently developed biosensors utilize known principles, the biosensing devices described can significantly shorten the time required for successful detection and enhance efforts in more time-consuming directions, e.g. remote sensing systems and validation in real-sample analysis. The authors describe advances in all stages of biosensor development: theselection of biochemical components, their use in biosensor assembly, detection principles and improvements and applications for real sample assays.
