Synopsis Biocidal Rubber for Water Reclamation Systems by : C. J. Major

An assessment was made of the bactericidal efficacy of 17 biologically active elastomeric materials against 7 genera of microorganisms under static and varying dynamic conditions. A test cell and a laboratory model of a vacuum distillation water reclamation system used in the study are described. Compounds showing the greatest overall effectiveness in buffered distilled water solutions and in urine are delineated. Taste thresholds and data on rat feeding experiments using one of the biocidal agents are included. A neoprene elastomer with either hexabutyl distannoxane or hexabutyl distannthiane seemed the most promising.

Synopsis Bioactive Polymeric Systems by : Charles G. Gebelein

The vast array of libraries in the world bear mute witness to the truth of the 3000-year-old observation of King Solomon who stated " ... of making many books there is no end, and much study is a weariness of the flesh." Yet books are an essential written record of our lives and the progress of science and humanity. Here is another book to add to this huge collection, but, hopefully, not just another collection of pages, but rather a book with a specific purpose to aid in alleviating the "weariness of the flesh" that could arise from much studying of other journals and books in order to obtain the basic information contained herein. This book is about polymeric materials and biological activity, as the title notes. Polymeric materials, in the broad view taken here, would include not only synthetic polymers (e.g., polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyesters, polyamides, etc.), but also the natural macromolecules (e.g., proteins, nucleic acids, polysaccharides) which compose natural tissues in humans, animals and plants. In the broad sense used here, biological activity is any type of such action whether it be in medication, pest control, plant-growth regu lation, and so on. In short, this book attempts to consider, briefly, the use of any type of polymeric material system with essentially any kind of biological activity.

Synopsis Controlled Release Pesticides Formulations by : Nathan F. Cardarelli

The main goal of this book is to present a summary of the state of the art historical background. Conventional chemical pest control methods are mentioned only as a means of comparison to controlled release. Research endeavour with biological weapons, potential usage of such controls, and the few instances of success are likewise brought into focus with the same motive. Formulations and methods or preparing controlled release pesticides are discussed in some detail as concerns the antifouling and molluscicide areas, where the compounding methodology has been well developed. The mathematical basis of controlled release has been developed to an extent and is presented in an abbreviated form.

Synopsis Handbook of Green Chemicals by : Michael Ash

More than 7000 trade name products and more than 2500 generic chemicals that can be used in formulations to meet envionmental concerns and government regulations. This reference is designed to serve as an essential tool in the strategic decision-making process of chemical selection when focusing on human and environmental safety factors.Industries Covered: Adhesives ? Refrigerants ? Water Treatment ? Plastics ? Rubber ? Surfactants ? Paints & Coatings ? Food ? PharmaceuticalsCosmetics ? Petroleum Processing ? Metal Treatment ? TextilesThe chemicals and materials included are used in every aspect of the chemical industry. The reference is organized so that the reader can access the information based on the trade name, chemical components, functions and application areas, 'green' attributes, manufacturer, CAS number, and EINECS/ELINCS number. It contains a unique cross-reference that groups the trade name chemicals by one or more of these green chemical attributes: Biodegradable ? Environmentally Safe ? Environmentally Friendly ? Halogen-Free ? HAP's-Free ? Low Global WarmingLow Ozone-Depleting ? Nonozone-Depleting ? Low Vapor Pressure ? Noncarcinogenic ? Non-CFC ? Non-HCFCNonhazardous ? Nontoxic ? Recyclable ? SARA-Nonreportable ? SNAP (Significant New Alternative Policy) CompliantVOC-Compliant ? Low-VOC ? VOC-Free
