Synopsis Bang! the Gun as Image by : George Blakely
This volume includes artworks from a wide range of artists from the unknown and untrained to the internationally successful, including Robert Mapplethorpe, Andres Serrano, and Andy Warhol. All media are included although photographic imagery is dominant. The range of their political positions on the topic is wide and the implications of their imagery diverse. Also included are quotations from literature or film, a listing of over 200 films that include guns or shooting in their titles, and a list of ephemera, primarily contemporary, from a "Mean Wiener" toy, a plastic hot dog bun holding a gun, to magazines, calendars, bumper stickers, t-shirts, books, key chains, cigarette lighters, and glassware. Of interest to art and gun aficionados alike, Bang both celebrates and criticizes the many political points of view surrounding the gun.

Synopsis Bang by : Barry Lyga
This is Where it Ends, Hate List, and Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock readers will appreciate this heartbreaking novel about living with your worst mistake, from New York Times bestselling author Barry Lyga. Sebastian Cody did something horrible, something no one--not even Sebastian himself--can forgive. At the age of four, he accidentally shot and killed his infant sister with his father's gun. Now, ten years later, Sebastian has lived with the guilt and horror for his entire life. With his best friend away for the summer, Sebastian has only a new friend, Aneesa, to distract him from his darkest thoughts. But even this relationship cannot blunt the pain of his past. Because Sebastian knows exactly how to rectify his childhood crime and sanctify his past. It took a gun to get him into this. Now he needs a gun to get out. Unflinching and honest, Bang is the story of one boy and one moment in time that cannot be reclaimed, as true and as relevant as tomorrow's headlines. "Fans of 13 Reasons Why will find a lot to like in Lyga's latest." -- Entertainment Weekly

Synopsis Afar in the Forest; or, Pictures of life and scenery in the wilds of Canada by : Catharine Parr Traill
"The sun was scarcely yet risen over the fringe of dark pines that skirted the shores of the lake, and a soft creamy mist hung on the surface of the still waters, which were unruffled by the slightest breeze. The little gray squirrels awoke, and looked sleepily out from the leafy screen that shaded their mossy nest. The early notes of the wood-thrush and song-sparrow, with the tender warbling of the tiny wren, sounded sweetly in the still, dewy morning air; while from a cedar swamp was heard the trill of the green frogs, which the squirrels thought very pretty music. As the sun rose above the tops of the trees, the mist rolled off in light fleecy clouds, and soon was lost in the blue sky, or lay in large bright drops on the cool grass and shining leaves. Then all the birds awoke, and the insects shook their gauzy wings which had been folded all the night in the flower-cups, and the flowers began to lift their heads, and the leaves to expand to catch the golden light. There was a murmur on the water as it played among the sedges, and lifted the broad floating leaves of the white water-lilies, with their carved ivory cups; and the great green, brown, and blue dragon-flies rose with a whirring sound, and darted to and fro among the water-flowers..." "Afar in the Forest; or, Pictures of life and scenery in the wilds of Canada" is a book by Catherine Parr Trail on the animal and plants of Canada, as told through the encounters of children with them, and the stories they listen to from their families.

Synopsis Staging Masculinity by : Carla J. McDonough
The men in plays such as Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman or Sam Shephard's True West are often presented as universal; little attention is given to the gender dynamics involved in the characters. This work looks at how contemporary playwrights, including Miller, Shepard, Eugene O'Neill, David Mamet, and August Wilson, stage masculinity in their works. It becomes apparent that male playwrights return often to the issues of troubled manhood, usually masked in other issues such as war, business or family. The plays indicate both the attractiveness of the model of traditional masculinity and the illusive nature of this image, which all too often fractures and fails the characters who pursue it. O'Neill's play The Hairy Ape and the character Yank receive much attention.
