Synopsis High-Energy Ball Milling by : Małgorzata Sopicka-Lizer
Mechanochemical processing is a novel and cost effective method of producing a wide range of nanopowders. It involves the use of a high energy ball mill to initiate chemical reactions and structural changes. High energy ball milling: Mechanochemical processing of nanopowders reviews the latest techniques in mechanochemistry and how they can be applied to the synthesis and processing of various high-tech materials.Part one discusses the basic science of mechanochemistry with chapters on such topics as the mechanism and kinetics of mechanochemical processes, kinetic behaviour in mechanochemically-induced structural and chemical transformations and materials design through mechanochemical processing. Part two reviews mechanochemical treatment of different materials including synthesis of complex ceramic oxides, production of intermetallic compound powders, synthesis of organic compounds, synthesis of metallic-ceramic composite powders and activation of covalent bond-based materials. Part three covers mechanochemical processes in metal powder systems and other applications with coverage of topics such as plating and surface modification using ultrasonic vibrations, activated powders as precursors for spark plasma sintering, titanium dioxide photocatalyst synthesis by mechanochemical doping and synthesis of materials for lithium-ion batteries. With its distinguished editor and international team of contributors, High energy ball milling: Mechanochemical processing of nanopowders is a standard reference for all those involved in the production of ceramic and metallic components using sintering and other powder metallurgy techniques to produce net shape components. - Examines the latest techniques in mechanochemistry and how they can be applied to the synthesis and processing of various high-tech materials - Discusses the basic science of mechanochemistry including kinetic behaviour, processes and mechanisms and materials design through mechanochemical processing - Reviews mechanochemical treatment of different materials including synthesis of ceramic oxides, organic compounds and metallic-ceramic composite powders

Synopsis Pioneer Pottery by : Michael Cardew
When he went to West Africa in the 1940s, Michael Cardew found himself in a land where the potter's art had been flourishing for centuries without the use of wheels, or kilns, or glazes. This book grew out of his desire to share all that he had learned from the African pioneers of pottery.

Synopsis Catalysis by : James J Spivey
This volume looks at modern approaches to catalysis and reviews the extensive literature. Chapters highlight application of 2D materials in biomass conversion catalysis, plasmonic photocatalysis, catalytic demonstration of mesoporosity in the hierarchical zeolite and the effect of surface phase oxides on supported metals and catalysis. Looking to the future a chapter on ab initio machine learning for accelerating catalytic materials discovery is included. Appealing broadly to researchers in academia and industry, these illustrative chapters bridge the gap from academic studies in the laboratory to practical applications in industry not only for catalysis field but also for environmental protection. Other chapters with an industrial perspective include heterogeneous and homogeneous catalytic routes for vinyl acetate synthesis, catalysis for production of jet fuel from renewable sources by HDO/HDC and microwave-assisted catalysis for fuel conversion. Chemical reactions in ball mills is also explored. The book will be of great benefit to any researcher wanting a succinct reference on developments in this area now and looking to the future.

Synopsis The Process of Fine Grinding by : B. Beke
2Vlanuals of mineral dressing or more precisely those of comminution-classifi cation treat in particular the mechanics of the machines, and generally their handling. In this way the plant engineer becomes acquainted with the equip ment but is given no help in learning something of the processes taking place in the material to be comminuted even though the purpose of the operation is to enhance wanted and to avoid unwanted physical or physico-chemical processes. Neglecting the description or representation of generally used and well known equipment the object of this monograph is to supply information on the processes taking place in grinding installations. It explains the sometimes complicated phemonena by applying quite simple means; it requires only an elementary knowledge of mathematics, mechanics and physical chemistry. The ideas are applicable to the grinding of all brittle raw materials or semi finished industrial products. The special problems of cement grinding and thm;e of hall mills are explained in more detail; in cement grinding we have to meet special requirements with regard to ball mills apart from other con siderations -, since these now demand the greatest overall energy consumption. Currently disputed problems are dealt with, and naturally the views of the author are given in detail, but contrary views are also mentioned and the ample list of references ensures that these opposing views can be considered.

Synopsis Polymer Mechanochemistry by : Roman Boulatov
The series Topics in Current Chemistry presents critical reviews of the present and future trends in modern chemical research. The scope of coverage is all areas of chemical science including the interfaces with related disciplines such as biology, medicine and materials science. The goal of each thematic volume is to give the non-specialist reader, whether in academia or industry, a comprehensive insight into an area where new research is emerging which is of interest to a larger scientific audience. Each review within the volume critically surveys one aspect of that topic and places it within the context of the volume as a whole. The most significant developments of the last 5 to 10 years are presented using selected examples to illustrate the principles discussed. The coverage is not intended to be an exhaustive summary of the field or include large quantities of data, but should rather be conceptual, concentrating on the methodological thinking that will allow the non-specialist reader to understand the information presented. Contributions also offer an outlook on potential future developments in the field. Review articles for the individual volumes are invited by the volume editors. Readership: research chemists at universities or in industry, graduate students.
