The Baccalaureate and Beyond Longitudinal Study (B&B:93) tracks the experiences of a cohort of recent college graduates, those who received the baccalaureate degree during the 1992-93 academic year and were first interviewed as part of the National Postsecondary Student Aid Study. The experiences of this group in the areas of academic enrollment, degree completion, employment, public service, and other adult decisions will be followed for about 12 years. Data will be used to address issues in a number of educational policy areas such as educational attainment, access to graduate and professional schools, the rate of return on educational investment, and patterns of preparation and engagement in teaching. The B&B:93 cohort consisted of about 12,500 individuals who were determined to be potentially eligible for followup in 1994. Responses were obtained for 11,810 students. This report reviews: (1) the study purpose and design; (2) the B&B:93 sample design; (3) data collection: telephone and field survey procedures; (4) response rates; (5) evaluation of the survey instrument; (6) the transcript component of B&B:93/94; and (7) the weights development documentation for the B&B:93/94 sample. This publication describes the methods and procedures used in the 2008/12 Baccalaureate and Beyond Longitudinal Study (B&B:08/12). These graduates, who completed the requirements for a bachelor's degree during the 2007-08 academic year, were first interviewed as part of the 2008 National Postsecondary Student Aid Study (NPSAS:08), and then followed up in 2009 as part of B&B:08/09. B&B:08/12 is the second follow-up interview of this cohort. This report details the methodology and outcomes of the B&B:08/12 student interview data collection and administrative records matching. This "First Look" presents findings from the 2008-09 Baccalaureate and Beyond Longitudinal Study (B&B:08/09), which describes the enrollment and employment experiences, 1 year after they graduated, of a national sample of college graduates who completed a bachelor's degree in the 2007-08 academic year. The tables in this report provide a sampling of the data available on graduates who earned their first bachelor's degree in 2007-08, presenting information on their undergraduate enrollment, including time to degree and education financing; postbaccalaureate enrollment and employment, particularly employment in teaching; and student loan repayment 1 year after completing college. B&B:08 is the third in a series of studies of bachelor's degree recipients that have previously covered 1992-93 graduates through 2003 (B&B:93) and 1999-2000 graduates through 2001 (B&B:2000). This report is organized as follows. The first section presents key findings from the set of detailed tables that follow. Tables 1-2 provide information on the demographic and undergraduate enrollment characteristics of 2007-08 bachelor's degree recipients. Tables 3-4 examine some of the resources--time taken and money borrowed--that graduates used to complete their bachelor's degrees. Tables 5-8 address postbaccalaureate activities and outcomes: education, employment, income, and participation in or preparation for K-12 teaching. This report describes the procedures and results of the full-scale implementation of the B&B:93/03 study. Students who earned a bachelor's degree in 1992-93 were first interviewed in 1993 and then subsequently in 1994 and 1997. This is the final follow-up interview of the B&B:93 cohort, 10 years following completion of the bachelor's degree. The results of this study offer an opportunity to assess the value of a baccalaureate degree at a time when sample members are becoming established in their careers. Specific topics of interest include length of time to complete a baccalaureate degree, the pursuit of additional postsecondary education beyond a bachelor's degree, and employment outcomes. This report presents initial findings about the employment outcomes of bachelor's degree recipients approx. 4 years after they complete their 2007-08 degrees. These findings are based on data from the second follow-up of the Baccalaureate and Beyond Longitudinal Study (B&B:08/12), a nationally representative longitudinal sample survey of students who completed the requirements for a bachelor's degree during the 2007-08 academic year. The study addresses questions related to bachelor's degree recipients' education and employment experiences and includes two follow-ups. The first, conducted 1 year after graduation, explored both undergraduate education experiences and early postbaccalaureate employment and enrollment. The second, conducted in 2012, examines bachelor's degree recipients' labor market experiences and enrollment in additional postsecondary degree programs through the 4th year after graduation.
