Synopsis Assembled in Light by : Alastair Gordon
The first monograph illustrating the high-end contemporary residential design of Barnes Coy Architects. Throughout their twenty-five-year commitment to modern design, Barnes Coy Architects have specialized in one-of-a-kind dream houses designed for those who prefer to live in highly spatial and modern ways. Assembled in Light is the first exclusive look at this firm's previously unpublished body of high-end residential work. These leisure homes gleam in the sun like sleek, finely tuned machines. Everything has been custom designed, custom made, custom treated. The houses are tastefully furnished with one-of-a-kind artisanal pieces (by Wendell Castle, Chris Lehrecke, etc.) and museum-quality collections of contemporary art hanging on the walls (such as works by Anselm Kiefer, Barbara Kruger, Richard Prince, and Cindy Sherman). They feature infinity pools, outdoor and indoor kitchens, roof decks, temperature-controlled wine cellars, and numerous guest rooms, as well as ten-foot-high doorways and floor-to-ceiling swathes of tempered glass to better gaze out at the dunes and ocean views. The new photography beautifully captures the architects' attention to detail and love of specialized materials, whether it's Carrara marble from Italy or teak from Bali. While most of the houses are located in the Hamptons in New York, a few are found as far afield as Costa Rica, California, Georgia, and Westchester County. All but three homes were built on commanding waterfront sites.

Synopsis Functional Materials from Colloidal Self-assembly by : George Zhao
A comprehensive resource for new and veteran researchers in the field of self-assembling and functional materials In Functional Materials from Colloidal Self-assembly, a pair of distinguished researchers delivers a thorough overview of how the colloidal self-assembly approach can enable the design and fabrication of several functional materials and devices. Among other topics, the book explores the foundations of self-assembly in different systems, nucleation, the growth of nanoparticles, self-assembly of colloidal microspheres for photonic crystals and devices, and the self-assembly of amphiphilic molecules as a template for mesoporous materials. The authors also discuss the self-assembly of biomolecules, superstructures from self-assembly, architectures from self-assembly, and the applications of self-assembled nanostructures. Functional Materials from Colloidal Self-assembly provides a balanced approach to the theoretical background and applications of the subject, offering sound guidance to both experienced and early-career researchers. The book also delivers: A thorough introduction to the fundamentals of colloids, including the theory of nucleation and the growth of colloidal particles Comprehensive explorations of mechanisms and strategies for the self-assembly of colloidal particles, including DNA-mediated colloidal self-assembly Practical discussions of characterization techniques for self-assembled colloidal structures, including electron microscopy techniques and X-ray techniques In-depth examinations of biological and biomedical materials, including tissue engineering, drug loading and release, and biodetection Perfect for materials scientists, inorganic chemists, and catalytic chemists, Functional Materials from Colloidal Self-assembly is also a must-read reference for biochemists and surface chemists seeking a one-stop resource on self-assembling and functional materials.

Synopsis Systems Self-Assembly by :
Systems Self-Assembly is the only book to showcase state-of-the-art self-assembly systems that arise from the computational, biological, chemical, physical and engineering disciplines. Written by world experts in each area, it provides a coherent, integrated view of both book practice examples and new trends with a clearly presented computational flavor. The unifying thread throughout the text is the computational nature of self-assembling systems. This book consists of 13 chapters dealing with a variety of topics such as the patterns of self-organised nanoparticle assemblies; biomimetic design of dynamic self-assembling systems; computing by self-assembly involving DNA molecules, polyominoes, and cells; evolutionary design of a model of self-assembling chemical structures; self-assembly as an engineering concept across size scales; and probabilistic analysis of self-assembled molecular networks. Other chapters focus on the programming language of dynamic self-assembly; self-assembled computer architectures; simulation of self-assembly processes using abstract reduction systems; computer aided search for optimal self-assembly systems; theoretical aspects of programmable self-assembly; emergent cooperativity in large-scale patterns; and automated self-assembling programming.Systems Self-Assembly is an ideal reference for scientists, researchers and post-graduate students; practitioners in industry, engineering and science; and managers, decision-makers and policy makers. - The only book to showcases state-of-the-art self-assembly systems that arise from the computational, biological, chemical, physical and engineering disciplines - Coherent, integrated view of both book practice examples and new trends with a clearly presented computational flavor - Written by world experts in each area
