The planning and writing of this book has taken rather longer than I had originally intended; what began as a modest literary project for two second-year medical students has expanded over eight years to become a complete book. The subject matter lent itself all too easily to a sen sationalist approach yet, on the other hand, a strictly scientific approach would probably have resulted in a dull dry text of little interest to the general reader. I have therefore attempted to bridge the gap and make the book intelligible and entertaining to the non-special ist, but at the same time ensuring that it is factually correct and adequately researched for the scientist or clinician. I have always been impressed by Sir J .G. Frazer's introduction to his classic book The Golden Bough in which he apologizes for the fact that an article originally intended merely to explain the rules of succession to the priesthood of Diana at Aricia had expanded, over a period of thirty years, to twelve volumes. The present work cannot pretend to such heady levels of academic excellence.

This book is solely devoted to natural methods to increase sex drive, sexual arousal and libido, both in males and females, using natural substances, which are generally called by the name Aphrodisiac. Sexual dysfunction is extremely common among both males and females. According to World famous sex researchers, Masters and Johnson, during sexual intercourse men took around 4 minutes to reach orgasm with their partners, but women took about 10-20 minutes to reach orgasm with their partners, but only about 4 minutes to reach orgasm, when they masturbated. So it is not very difficult to guess from these figures, why anorgasmia is much more common among women than among males. Some 10% of women have never got orgasm, over 15% report difficulties of getting orgasm, and 40-50% of women have complaints about sexual dissatisfaction or becoming sexually aroused. At least 70-80% of women can get orgasm only through clitoris stimulation, but possibly at least 90% of their male partners do not known this fact or do not care about it. As is well known, clitoris stimulation is almost impossible with the most common sexual intercourse position, the Missionary position. Because women reach orgasm less often during sexual intercourse than males, they are more likely than men to have and show a fake orgasm. At least 150 million men in the World suffer from erectile dysfunction. The figure is between 10-20% in younger males but can reach over 50% at ages over 60. But premature ejaculation is much more common than erectile dysfunction. According to Masters and Johnson, up to 20% of men suffer from premature ejaculation, so they get orgasm within a very short time period during sexual intercourse and their female partner does not have any possibility of getting sexual pleasure or orgasm. Sexual dysfunction increases rapidly during aging, both among males and females, mostly due to hormonal reasons. Menopause in females decreases strongly sexual activity, due to decreasing Estrogen, DHEA and Testosterone. In males Testosterone and DHEA decrease steadily during aging, but the catabolic, "Anti-sex" hormones Cortisol and Prolactin tend to increase. There exists astonishing number of simple and very common natural products, which increase sex drive, sexual arousal, libido, erection, Testosterone, sperm count and sperm motility. This book contains a compilation of papers based on pres entations made at the International Symposium on Penile Disorders held in Hamburg, Germany, 26-27 January 1996, under the Chairmanship of Hartmut Porst. This was a unique conference in that it comprehensively addressed various disorders that affect the organ situated at the "center of the male", the penis. As an important beginning, the sociocultural aspects of the erect phallus were presented by G. Wagner from Copen hagen. The anatomy of the penis and the physiological con ditions of erection were then discussed by K. -P. J Unemann from Mannheim, Germany. Previous conferences on the penis had concentrated only on specific areas of disease such as impotence. However, it became readily apparent that at this conference something new for almost every as pect of disease would be discussed, including congenital disorders such as hypospadias and epispadias, sexually transmitted and noninfectious dermatological diseases, and congenital and acquired penile curvatures and penile fractures. An excellent presentation of managing penile cancer by stage related therapeutic decision was presented by S. C. MUller from Bonn, Germany. There is no better per son to present a discussion of Peyronie' s disease in 1996 from a historical and management perspective than J. Pryor from London, UK. This same degree of expertise was also demonstrated by I. Saenz de Tejada from Madrid, Spain, re garding priapism.
