Synopsis Fifteenth Annual Report of the Insurance Commissioner of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Vol. 1 by : Massachusetts Division of Insurance

Excerpt from Fifteenth Annual Report of the Insurance Commissioner of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Vol. 1: January 1, 1870; Fire and Marine Insurance It may be mentioned in this connection, that the insurance statistics of other States, so far as they have been available to the Commissioner, indicate about the same ratios of failure among Companies organized in these two classes. In this respect the record of Massachusetts does not disclose a greater degree of disaster, than that of other States and countries. Rather does it present, as a whole, a much more favorable aspect than some which might be cited. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Synopsis Eighteenth Annual Report of the Insurance Commissioner of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Vol. 2 by : Massachusetts Insurance Commissioner

Excerpt from Eighteenth Annual Report of the Insurance Commissioner of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Vol. 2: January 1, 1873; Life and Accident Insurance But it is a curious fact in this connection, that some Com panics transacting the smallest amount of business frequently require a much longer time to make up their returns than others whose business is vastly greater, the former being occasionally unable to render their statements under two and a half or three months. Most of the Companies, we are happy to say, are commendably prompt in this matter, and if all would emulate the example of the United States Life, of New York, both their own and the business at large would derive material benefit. The United States promptly closed its books on the last day of the year, and its annual state ments were almost immediately ready for delivery, yet its business is as widely extended as that of many Companies which take from one to two months for that purpose. Such punctuality and promptness are highly creditable, and attest the excellence of executive management. Let us hope for an extension of such usage. Synopsis Forty-Sixth Annual Report of the Insurance Commissioner of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, January 1, 1901, Vol. 2 by : Massachusetts Insurance Commissioners

Excerpt from Forty-Sixth Annual Report of the Insurance Commissioner of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, January 1, 1901, Vol. 2: Life, Casualty and Assessment Insurance These investments, of so great volume and variety, necessa rily participate in the character of all the sound and reliable properties of the country; and, although there have been and may be periods of depression which affect nominally all values, there exists no necessity for any changes of investment on that account by the companies when the wave passes they are found again in the same general condition as the average of the substantial investments of the community. Probably there is no other class of institutions holding large trusts less sub ject to sudden and forcible conversion or change of invest ments than the life companies, and hence none able to show better average earnings and results and in the report of inter est earned during the year, the rate per cent. Realized shows no material variation from that of recent years, and that the reserves in this respect are well protected. So far, then, as the amount of property to protect the policy obligations and the mortality and interest experiences are con cerned, the conditions are favorable and satisfactory. The volume of business done and the grand totals of amounts in force show relatively the same increase as in the previous year, and are indicative of active and healthy conditions, and that with return of business activity there will be no lagging of enterprise or lack of progress.
