My social philosophy may be said to be enshrined in three words, Liberty Equality and Fraternity - Dr. Ambedkar I. Introduction: Dr. Ambedkar was a great jurist and statesman of his time and his vision of Law and Constitution is of contemporary value for any democratic State. He was an Economist, Social Scientist, Leader of Labour and Depressed Classes, and a great Humanitarian. His ideology was reflected in his speeches at different events and in the Constituent Assembly Debates. Dr. Ambedkar deals with many issues in his life. Movement for Drinking Water in Public Places at (Chawdar Tank), Movement for entry into Temple at Nashik, Equal Rights Women in marriage and Property denotes his ideology for protection of basic human rights. The idea of writing this book has been germinating in my mind for long time but due to certain unavoidable reason could not get it finished. Really, it is very tough task to put together Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s ideas and thoughts on entirety in a single book, yet this book is an attempt to provide a coherent account on his socio-political struggles to establish an egalitarian transformative society with the ideas of liberty, equality, fraternity and social justice through the Constitutional means with all odds of caste indignities; and challenged the age-old social structure intellectually rooting on the ground and rendered unwavering contributions in making modern India.

B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of India's constitution, and M.K. Gandhi, the Indian nationalist, two figures whose thought and legacies have most strongly shaped the contours of Indian democracy, are typically considered antagonists who held irreconcilable views on empire, politics, and society. As such, they are rarely studied together. This book reassesses their complex relationship, focusing on their shared commitment to equality and justice, which for them was inseparable from anticolonial struggles for sovereignty. Both men inherited the concept of equality from Western humanism, but their ideas mark a radical turn in humanist conceptions of politics. This study recovers the philosophical foundations of their thought in Indian and Western traditions, religious and secular alike. Attending to moments of difficulty in their conceptions of justice and their languages of nonviolence, it probes the nature of risk that radical democracy's desire for inclusion opens within modern political thought. In excavating Ambedkar and Gandhi's intellectual kinship, Radical Equality allows them to shed light on each other, even as it places them within a global constellation of moral and political visions. The story of their struggle against inequality, violence, and empire thus transcends national boundaries and unfolds within a universal history of citizenship and dissent.

The complete alienation of Dalits from resources like land, water, and agricultural implements has led to the collective demand for an equal share in productivity. This book discusses the range of socio-economic and cultural problems faced by the Dalit community. The movement advancing the rights of Dalits took place both before and after independence, however they varied in intensity, and concerned land ownership and fair wages, self-respect, social dignity, and the demand for equal rights. This movement appeared to have significantly changed the very mindset and attitude of upper caste people to restrain themselves and not to resort to any discrimination or humiliation of Dalits. However, this seems to have been only a temporary phenomenon, and the practice of suppression and humiliation continues today. This book explores the circumstances of Dalits in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, and the current efforts attempting to achieve more social equality for the caste here.

This book discusses the issues of inequality and marginalization in India. The first section of the book contextualizes sociological traditions for the scrutiny of subaltern discourse on discrimination. The chapters in the section explore self-identity, ‘margins’ in sociological traditions, subalternity and exclusion, citizenship issues of de-notified tribes, the role of religion for scheduled tribe Dalits and Ambedkar’s ideas on tribes. The second section deals with the political economy of higher education, health and employment. The efforts of BR Ambedkar and the consequences of those efforts, his critique of education policies during British time and its alteration for independent India have been meticulously dealt with. The third section illustrates an application of theoretical understanding through narratives of labour bondage in Varanasi, sanitation workers in Mumbai and rickshaw pullers in Delhi. The last section establishes that unequal access to resources is a consequence of discrimination and marginalization induced by social identities. The book argues for equitable access to resources and opportunities to ensure health equity.
