Synopsis Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors by : H. François

Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors is a collection of papers that covers various aspects of solid state nuclear track detectors. The book presents 130 articles that cover the concerns in the mechanisms, operations, and applications of solid state nuclear track detectors. The materials in the text are thematically grouped into three parts. The book first discusses the fundamental mechanisms, which include determination of the screening parameter from measurements of differential energy loss and atomic displacement effects from heavy ion induced coulomb explosion. Next, the selection presents articles that deal with the methodology of detectors, such as experimental track widths of low energy heavy ions in nuclear emulsion and structure of light nuclei tracks. The remaining papers cover the fields of applications, such as nuclear fusion; prospection of radioactive and fissionable minerals; dosimetry; and autoradiography. The book will be of great use to researchers and practitioners of disciplines related to nuclear science.

Synopsis Ways Ahead by : Joachim Heintz

The first international Csound conference, held at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media (HMTMH) between 30th September and 2nd October 2011, marked the first time that the principal people involved with Csound – in existence since 1986 – met in person. This book documents not only the proceedings of this conference through its inclusion of the featured papers, workshop descriptions and round table summaries, but also includes interviews with developers and musicians, along with several new articles written exclusively for this publication. Reflecting the diversity of contributions to the Csound project that conference attendees brought, this book is organised into five main parts entitled “History”, “Development”, “Music”, “Usage” and “Education”.

Synopsis High Energy Alpha Particles Associated with Fission by : E. O. Wollan

In this work the photographic emulsion technique has been applied to the study of the long range particles given off during neutron irradiation of uranium. Alvarez first observed these particles with an ion chamber and linear amplifier. Segre, et al (LA-87) studied these particles with an ion chamber which gave coincidences between these particles and fission. They found them to be coincident with fission within the time constant of their circuit (approx 5u sec). They were also able to identify these particles as alpha particles from the density of ionization near the end of the tracks. Hughes has observed a number of these alpha particles in the cloud chamber, but his setup did not permit him to observe the associated fission track. The cloud chamber or photographic emulsion technique permits information to be obtained about the alpha particles and their association with the fission process that cannot be got by the ion chamber method. The photographic emulsion technique has been used in this case because it lends itself very well to a study of rare events of this type.

Synopsis TAKEN: A Metaphysical Fantasy by : V. Morrow

Enoch, an alpha-tracker and possessor of the One Mind, lives in a time of turmoil at the dawn of mankind. The curse promised by the Ancient One has come to pass. First Father Adam is dead, and the dreaded plague that almost decimated the tribes 291 years ago has returned. Enoch and his powerful rival, Tubal-Cain, are chosen for the quest of a lifetime or rather the quest that will end their lives. They must find the cure, a miraculous healing plant known to grow near the Forbidden Garden, and stave off death once more. Only a fool would risk the dangerous trek to the Edge and the wrath of the terrible creatures guarding it. Enoch quickly discovers he is not enough but also learns he is not alone. A mysterious stranger leads Enoch through a portal to a metaphysical realm where past, present, and future collide, and now he finds himself in the middle of an ancient war. Supernatural forces are plotting too—one with a mind to destroy Adam's kind and the other with a heart to save it. Enoch must choose—angel or demon, friend or foe, dark or light before death overcomes and the Seed is destroyed forevermore.

Synopsis The Exiled Earthborn by : Paul Tassi

In this thrilling second book of the Earthborn trilogy, Lucas and Asha have survived the decimation of Earth at the hands of the invading Xalans and seek safe haven with their enemy’s true foes, the Sorans. They find a lush planet inhabited by a civilization far more advanced than their own, waging a seemingly endless war against a constantly evolving enemy. The Sorans call the pair of them the “Earthborn” and they’re welcomed as heroes, almost as gods. To an audience of billions, they swear an oath to avenge their fallen planet by aiding the Sorans in their war against Xala. But soon Lucas and Asha find Sora just as dangerous as apocalyptic Earth when they’re targeted by the Fourth Order, a rebel collective who decries them as false prophets and harbingers of further bloodshed. Their friend and turncoat Xalan scientist Alpha believes he’s located someone who can help them turn the tide of the war for good, stranded on a conquered colony planet. But landing on the new world, Lucas and Asha find themselves hunted by a violent, mysterious beast, known only as the Desecrator, let loose by the Xalans. Escaping Earth was only the beginning. As Lucas and Asha quickly learn, the universe has worlds and creatures far more dangerous than anything their home planet could have offered, and their continued survival hinges on gaining new allies they never could have imagined.
