Synopsis All Angels Have Wings by : Mai Thomsen

Mai Thomsen “All Angels Have Wings” The sound of the shovel was deafening, and he was in no hurry. Took one slow but determined dig, one after the other. The soil slowly building in a pile next to him while the hole in the ground now reached his knees. At no point in time did he puff or complain, almost like he did not tire. He just kept digging and whistling the same short melody over and over. "Fffff fff fff fff, ff-fff fff fffff fff ff-fff.” Trish didn’t recognise the tune, but she knew that his whistling, along with sounds of the soil brushing against the shovel, would be the last things she heard. She was going to die. She could already feel it. The stab wound was bad, and she had been bleeding for hours now, going in and out of consciousness. She just hoped it would all end before she was put in the ground. Before the soil suffocated her and the ground took claim over her body.

Synopsis Not All Angels Have Wings by : Craig Georgeff

Richie Small finds himself living in a dilapidated trailer with his mother transplanted to rural Michigan from Kentucky and attending a new school. His small physical size, thick black-rimmed glasses, and quiet nature make him the obvious target for the school bully, the gargantuan Clarence Goodfellow. If that were not enough to place a bull's-eye on his back, Richie is an avid reader, smart enough to be termed a geek or a nerd if anyone should find out. While trying to make himself invisible to Clarence and the others around him, Richie is befriended by a stray dog that becomes his first true friend and a fifth-grade teacher that discovers and shares his passion for the written word. Although poor and different, Richie and his dog, Lady, capture the heart of a community that will eventually call him a hero. This book takes an honest look at the issues and situations students face in any school and in any community. It is a heartwarming story that highlights the love shown by a hardworking single mother, the influence of a caring teacher, a coach that recognizes heart, a fellow student who needs help, and the influence of a dog that seems to know it all. Hopefully, not only will it encourage younger readers to appreciate the written word but also be enjoyed by anyone who enjoys a heartwarming story of a young man befriended by a dog.

Synopsis Knowledge, Language, and Interpretation by : Maria Cristina Amoretti

Thanks to their heterogeneity, the nine essays in this volume offer a clear testimony of Donald Davidson's authority, and they undoubtedly show how much his work - even if it has raised many doubts and criticisms - has been, and still is, highly influential and significant in contemporary analytical philosophy for a wide range of subjects. Moreover, the various articles not only critically and carefully analyze Davidson's theses and arguments (in particular those concerning language and knowledge), but they also illustrate how such theories and ideas, despite their unavoidable difficulties, are still alive and potentially fruitful. Davidon's work is indeed an important and provocative starting point for discussing the future progress of philosophy.

Synopsis The Logic of the Articles in Traditional Philosophy by : E.M. Barth

When the original Dutch version of this book was presented in 1971 to the University of Leiden as a thesis for the Doctorate in philosophy, I was prevented by the academic mores of that university from expressing my sincere thanks to three members of the Philosophical Faculty for their support of and interest in my pursuits. I take the liberty of doing so now, two and a half years later. First and foremost I want to thank Professor G. Nuchelmans warmly for his expert guidance of my research. A number of my most im portant sources were brought to my attention by him. During the whole process of composing this book his criticism and encouragement were carried out in a truly academic spirit. He thereby provided working conditions that are a sine qua non for every author who is attempting to approach controversial matters in a scientific manner, conditions which, however, were not easily available at that time. In a later phase I also came into contact with Professors L. M. de Rijk and J. B. Ubbink, with both of whom I had highly stimulating discussions and exchanges of ideas. The present edition contains some entirely new sections, viz. 1-9, IV-29, V-9, V-20, VII-14 (iii), (iv), VII-17 (i), VIII-22, IX-17, IX-19, X-9 and XI-8. Section X-9 was inspired by a remark made by Professor A.
