Synopsis Advanced Technologies for Humanity by : Rajaa Saidi
This book gathers the proceedings of the International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Humanity (ICATH’2021), held on November 26-27, 2021, in INSEA, Rabat, Morocco. ICATH’2021 was jointly co-organized by the National Institute of Statistics and Applied Economics (INSEA) in collaboration with the Moroccan School of Engineering Sciences (EMSI), the Hassan II Institute of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine (IAV-Hassan II), the National Institute of Posts and Telecommunications (INPT), the National School of Mineral Industry (ENSMR), the Faculty of Sciences of Rabat (UM5-FSR), the National School of Applied Sciences of Kenitra (ENSAK) and the Future University in Egypt (FUE). ICATH’2021 was devoted to practical models and industrial applications related to advanced technologies for Humanity. It was considered as a meeting point for researchers and practitioners to enable the implementation of advanced information technologies into various industries. This book is helpful for PhD students as well as researchers. The 48 full papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 105 submissions. The papers presented in the volume are organized in topical sections on synergies between (i) smart and sustainable cities, (ii) communication systems, signal and image processing for humanity, (iii) cybersecurity, database and language processing for human applications, (iV) renewable and sustainable energies, (V) civil engineering and structures for sustainable constructions, (Vi) materials and smart buildings and (Vii) Industry 4.0 for smart factories. All contributions were subject to a double-blind review. The review process was highly competitive. We had to review 105 submissions from 12 countries. A team of over 100 program committee members and reviewers did this terrific job. Our special thanks go to all of them.

Synopsis Advanced Materials and Techniques for Biosensors and Bioanalytical Applications by : Pranab Goswami
Bioanalytical science and its technological subdomain, biosensors, are ever-evolving subjects, striving for rapid improvement in terms of performance and expanding the target range to meet the vast societal and market demands. The key performance factors for a biosensor that drive the research are selectivity, sensitivity, response time, accuracy, and reproducibility, with additional requirements of its portability and inexpensive nature. These performance factors are largely governed by the materials and techniques being used in these bioanalytical platforms. The selection of materials to meet these requirements is critical, as their interaction or involvement with the biological recognition elements should initiate or improve these performance factors. The technique discussed primarily applies to transducers involved in converting a biochemical signal to optical or electrical signals. Over the years, the emergence of novel materials and techniques has drastically improved the performance of these bioanalytical systems, enabling them to expand their analytical horizon. These advanced materials and techniques are central to modern bioanalytical and biosensor research. Advanced Materials and Techniques for Biosensors and Bioanalytical Applications provides a comprehensive review of the subject, including a knowledge platform for both academics and researchers. Considering biosensors as a central theme to this book, an outline on this subject with background principles has been included, with a scope of extending the utility of the book to coursework in graduate and postgraduate schools. Features: • Basic principles on different classes of biosensors, recent advances and applications • Smart materials for biosensors and other rapid, portable detection devices • Metal nanoparticles and nanocrystals for analytical applications • Carbon-based nanoparticles and quantum dots for sensing applications • Nanozymes as potential catalysts for sensing applications • Bioelectrochemiluminescence and photoelectrochemical-based biosensors • Paper electronics and paper-based biosensors • Microbial biosensors: artificial intelligence, genetic engineering, and synthetic biology • Biofuel cells as a signal transduction platform • FET-based biosensors, including ISFET and BioFET This book serves as a reference for scientific investigators and a textbook for a graduate-level course in biosensors and advanced bioanalytical techniques.

Synopsis Particles Separation in Microfluidic Devices by : Takasi Nisisako
Microfluidic platforms are increasingly being used for separating a wide variety of particles based on their physical and chemical properties. In the past two decades, many practical applications have been found in chemical and biological sciences, including single cell analysis, clinical diagnostics, regenerative medicine, nanomaterials synthesis, environmental monitoring, etc. In this Special Issue, we invited contributions to report state-of-the art developments in the fields of micro- and nanofluidic separation, fractionation, sorting, and purification of all classes of particles, including, but not limited to, active devices using electric, magnetic, optical, and acoustic forces; passive devices using geometries and hydrodynamic effects at the micro/nanoscale; confined and open platforms; label-based and label-free technology; and separation of bioparticles (including blood cells), circulating tumor cells, live/dead cells, exosomes, DNA, and non-bioparticles, including polymeric or inorganic micro- and nanoparticles, droplets, bubbles, etc. Practical devices that demonstrate capabilities to solve real-world problems were of particular interest.
