Synopsis Stars Over Alaska by : Jennifer Snow
"Jennifer Snow is one clever writer."—RT Book Reviews The Alaskan wilderness may be the best place to protect her client, but also where it’s impossible to protect her heart. Needing a safe place to hide her latest client, agent Leslie Sanders returns to her hometown of Wild River to wait out the search for the young Hollywood star’s stalker. Just being back in Alaska is stirring up emotions she’d buried, and as much as Leslie believed she was moving on with her life in LA, she’s still not over the death of her fiancé. The sun, sand and surf made it easy to forget cold Alaskan nights snuggled by the fire, planning a future with Dawson…but seeing Levi Grayson just makes everything that much harder. Levi Grayson has been one of Alaska’s elite group of wildland firefighters for almost ten years, but nothing about his job rattles him as much as seeing Leslie again. When Leslie left Wild River after Dawson’s death, it had hurt to lose his two best friends in a matter of weeks. Resisting his feelings for her when Dawson was alive was tough, but he’s not sure he’s strong enough anymore to fight the attraction between them, or to let this last chance at love slip away like smoke through his fingers. Synopsis An Alaskan Affliction by : Rosi Jarussi
An Alaskan Affliction is packed with pure entertainment, featuring highlights from decades of Alaska hard core adventures. It opens with unforgettable dog mushing to embrace the best of the Interior's extreme winters, and snowmachining that doubles the thrills and mishaps of travel over river ice, through blizzards, and sudden whiteouts. Summer offers the finest river journeys. There are sudden storms, log jams, whirlpools, and wildlife encounters in the immense panorama of wilderness and water—with a vivid portrait of the dynamics of being a team member in the bush. The remote prospecting stories are thrilling and risky, and demand a lifetime of bush skills. They end with a resounding bear story that catalyzes the true essence of living and exploring as an Alaskan. All are top notch adventures with good dogs and old machines, undersized kayaks and cantankerous boats, with a touch of lunacy and a can-do attitude, both essential dispositions for exploring Alaska's wilds.

This carefully crafted ebook: "THE ALASKAN" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. "Captain Rifle, Grey and old in the Alaskan Steamship service, had not lost the spirit of his youth along with his years. Romance was not dead in him, and the fire which is built up of clean adventure and the association of strong men and a mighty country had not died out of his veins. He could still see the picturesque, feel the thrill of the unusual, and--at times--warm memories crowded upon him so closely that yesterday seemed today, and Alaska was young again, thrilling the world with her wild call..." (Excerpt) James Oliver Curwood was an American action-adventure writer and conservationist. His books ranked among top-ten best sellers in the United States and at least eighteen motion pictures have been based on or directly inspired by his novels and short stories. Synopsis The New Alaska Cookbook, 2nd Edition by : Glenn Denkler
Out-of-this-world ingredients (consider the King crab and the salmon from the Copper River) combined with creative chefs makes for adventurous and sophisticated eating. This much-lauded cookbook profiles a dozen Alaska chefs who are developing and perfecting the tastes and flavors of the Last Frontier. Whether they are located in downtown hotel restaurants or remote lodges or far-flung towns, these chefs are finding wonderful local ingredients and either inventing new dishes or re-interpreting classics. The traditional Alaskan Seafood Chowder is a hearty and malleable recipe that takes advantage of the fact that Alaskan kitchens usually have a good supply on hand of various kinds of fin- and shellfish. Naturally, the book offers up a good half-dozen other fish recipes as well. The Wild Mushroom Tart reflects the bounty of the many forests&—and fortunately excellent foraged mushrooms are showing up at farmers markets in the lower-48. Alaska is famous for its long summer days that produce bumper crops and outsized vegetables. Cream of Alaskan Summer Squash and Fresh Sweet Basil Soup is a terrific solution to too many zucchinis (an issue for many home farmers). Roast Cornish Hen with King Prawn is a perfect and unexpected marriage of fish and fowl&—a combination that perhaps could only have been invented in Alaska. With over 120 recipes, this second edition of The New Alaska Cookbook reveals that the culinary world up north has continued to evolve in many new and delicious directions

Synopsis The Alaska Wild Berry Cookbook by : The Editors of Alaska Northwest Books The Editors of Alaska Northwest Books
Whether you are the family berry picker, grocery store shopper or cook, here are the best time-tested recipes for cooking with the more abundant and popular species of wild berries indigenous to Alaska. It's all here, from currants to watermelon berries, from milkshakes to mincemeat. Included are recipes for breads, salads, main courses, desserts, preserves, candies, syrups, trail food, and even some beverages like juices, milkshakes, and punches. Many of the recipes are in the dessert category, but you will be surprised aw many other ways there are to use wild berries. Lowbush cranberries are particularly good in certain meat dishes, and are useful as a marinade for meat. Wild berries are fine for jam and jelly making, not to mention drying and freezing. Cultivated species may be substituted for wild berries in these recipes, but one must remember that they are often less tart than their wild relatives and adjustments in sugar added may be necessary.
