Synopsis A Spiritual Odyssey by : Brian O'Hare
A Spiritual Odyssey" is the compelling story of a six-year journey on two converging paths - a burgeoning spirituality, and a dramatic physical degeneration that took the author to the doors of death. It is essentially a witness to the miraculous grace of God, and how it reaches into both soul and body. The author struggles with questions of a theological nature, but not in an academic way. The questions emerge from the practical, often confusing circumstances, in which the author finds himself as he copes with dying and tries to understand his growing spirituality. 1. "Some of the medical descriptions chill the blood but the religious explorations are heart-warming .... a fine exposition of the riches of the Catholic tradition [David McLaurin, The Tablet] 2. Intelligent and sensitive...very moving...gives a graphic account of suffering and anguish...gives us wonderful vignettes of people he met on his journey. [Anthony Redmond, The Irish Catholic Newspaper] 3. I read it with enjoyment and, I hope, profit. What distinguishes it from other spiritual works is the clarity of the prose and the honesty of the author [Professor Art Cosgrove, Vice-Chancellor, University College, Dublin] 4. It deserves a very wide readership as it has the potential to do a lot of good for God’s holy people. I have bought extra copies for friends who will be deeply touched by it. [Fr. Sean Fagan, International Theologian, lecturer and writer.]

Synopsis This Is What We Are! by : Emmanuel K. Anizoba
The book is an attempt to describe the origin, constitution and destiny of Man. Using what the Ancients told us as a starting point, a brief genesis of the Universe and Man is given. The Universe is shown to be triune, comprising a Body, a Mind or Soul, and a ruling Spirit. Man, being a miniature Universe, is also shown to be triune and composed of a Body, a Mind or Soul, and an indwelling ruling Spirit. Teh book goes on to show that Man is animal by his body and human by his Mind, Soul or Self: an organizing intelligencec, This is waht we are!: partly animal (by the Body) and partly human (by the Mind, Soul or Self); hence the portrayal of man as Centaur, whose human torso is inseparably joined to its euine lower part. The fact that Man is partly animal and partly human leads us to the acceptance of our Nature, of how and what we are. Our Spirit or "Father" made us teh way we are, and this is perfect. Thus, the human Nature needs no ammendment. With the acceptance of our Nature, as we are, the Mind realizes that its true mission in the Body is to work closely with the indwelling Spirit, with a view to obtaining the latter's maximal growth. Optimal growth of the Spirit is the sole objective of evolution and the Mind, as husbandman of the Body, is expected to contribute positively to the achievement of the growth. The Mind as an organizing intelligence acts, through the Body and with the help of the Spirit, on the outside world. This process has beocome almost automatic and the Mind has been deluded into believing that it can of itself, do anything; forgetting that it is actually the Spirit that does everything, through the Mind and the Body. the book goes on to show that the Paradise that Man once enjoyed can only be regained by a re-orientation of the Mind towrds the Spirit within. The search of the Self, the I, is for the Spirit within and not for some fictitious "Higher Self". How can the Self search for itself? Who will do the searching? No. The search is done by the Self and for the Spirit within. This search for the Spirit is indeed true religion: a return to the source.

Synopsis Everyday Grace by : Jessica Thompson
Your Grace-Filled Guide to Relationships It's hard, sometimes, to get over that thing your husband said weeks ago; or to resolve that tension with your colleague at work; or to fix a lifelong friendship that's taken a bad turn. The biggest problem with relationships is they always seem to involve sinners--including ourselves. So how can we form strong, resilient bonds with people who, like us, are bound to mess up? Thankfully, it's not all on us. Through stories and biblical teaching, Jessica Thompson helps us move beyond trying to "fix" the people we interact with, and shows us a better way. Though our relationships may be marred by tension and frustration, because we are welcomed and known by Christ, they don't have to stay that way. "Nothing changes the way we relate to others more than knowing how God relates to us. Knowing how God loves us and forgives us and is gracious and merciful toward us and forbears with us inevitably affects the way we think about other people. My good friend Jessica Thompson has written a book that articulates who God is for us and then shows how that changes the way we are toward others. Thank you, Jessica, for reminding me that God always meets my mess with his mercy and my failure with his forgiveness. Knowing this makes me want to love God and others."--Tullian Tchividjian, founder of Liberate and author of One Way Love: Inexhaustible Grace for an Exhausted World "We need grace in all our relationships. So much loneliness, feeling betrayed, alienation, anger, vengeance, sadness, grief find their roots in relational conflict. Jessica humbly guides us to see that only by being a recipient of God's grace can we be agents of grace in our relationships. She does this with humor, honesty, and confession from her own experience, not with advice as a relational guru."--Justin S. Holcomb, Episcopal priest, seminary professor, and author of On the Grace of God "Everyday Grace is for all who have struggled to accept their children and honor their parents and initiate with their neighbors and forgive their spouses and respect their bosses and celebrate their rivals. But it is not filled with practical tips that would trivialize the difficulty of these things. Nor is it a book of relational psychology that would strategize a resolution to these things. Instead, it is filled with the Scriptures that speak to these things--helping us to rest in Christ's covering of all our relational failure and inviting us to change by the power of the Holy Spirit."--Nancy Guthrie, Bible teacher and author "Relational paradise was lost when our first parents fell into sin. Our desire for change in this area is anywhere between cautiously optimistic and downright cynical. What I enjoy about Everyday Grace is that Thompson simply cannot get over the one hope for true reconciliation: God, in Christ, has befriended us."--Gloria Furman, author of Glimpses of Grace and Treasuring Christ When Your Hands Are Full "Relationships are hard. We know this. Jessica Thompson knows this too and shares how she fights to take her gaze off herself and onto the only one who can help our broken relationships--Jesus. Her method doesn't come from a list of ways to implement change; rather, she focuses on the gospel that transforms hearts and minds. Be encouraged by the good news as you read Everyday Grace, for it is the gospel that is our only Hope for our relationship problem."--Trillia Newbell, author of Fear and Faith: Finding the Peace Your Heart Craves and United: Captured by God's Vision for Diversity
