This book is designed especially for use in Hong Kong to teach the basic skills of finding legal materials, both printed and computer-based ones. Its objective is to help students explore the range of materials which they will use in the course of their legal education, and thereafter in the practice of law.

Emphasizing reference works published since 1964, these volumes cover books, periodicals, and inclusions (i.e., chapters in edited volumes) on the 1911 Revolution, the Republic of China (1949--), post-1911 Taiwan, post-1911 Hong Kong and Macao, and post-1911 overseas Chinese.

This publication contains a presentation of case laws rendered in jurisdictions having enacted the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration. In light of the large number of cases collected, the Commission requested a tool specifically designed to present selected information on the interpretation and application of the Model Law in a clear, concise and objective manner. This request originated the UNCITRAL Digest of Case Law on the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration. The purpose of the digest is to assist in the dissemination of information on the Model Law and further promote its adoption as well as its uniform interpretation and application. In addition, the digest is meant to help judges, government officials, arbitrators, practitioners and academics use more efficiently the case law relating to the UNCITRAL text.

Hong Kong has a curious mixture of laws old and new, written and unwritten, home-grown and imported. Made by various bodies in various ways with various results, these laws constitute a reasonably coherent body of rules, principles, practices, procedures, assumptions, and attitudes. How are these differing sources of law best described and explained? How are they mobilized and employed? How do they achieve the coherence they seem to display, and can that coherence be maintained? Such are the questions which this book seeks to illuminate. They are vital questions for a legal system undergoing significant change at a crucial time in the political development of Hong Kong.
