Synopsis Deep and Dark and Dangerous by : Mary Downing Hahn
Just before summer begins, 13-year-old Ali finds an odd photograph in the attic. She knows the two children in it are her mother, Claire, and her aunt Dulcie. But who’s the third person, the one who’s been torn out of the picture? Ali figures she’ll find out while she’s vacationing in Maine with Dulcie and her four-year-old daughter, Emma, in the house where Ali’s mother’s family used to spend summers. All hopes for relaxation are quashed shortly after their arrival, though, when the girls meet Sissy, a kid who’s mean and spiteful and a bad influence on Emma. Strangest of all, Sissy keeps talking about a girl named Teresa who drowned under mysterious circumstances back when Claire and Dulcie were kids, and whose body was never found. At first Ali thinks Sissy’s just trying to scare her with a ghost story, but soon she discovers the real reason why Sissy is so angry. . . . Mary Downing Hahn is at her chilling best in this new supernatural tale that’s certain to send shivers down her readers’ spines.

Synopsis A Deep Danger by : Edward Schwartz
A Deep Danger is a powerfully realistic, sweeping, exciting and entertaining novel. It offers thoughtful analyses and spins a good yarn, has the intrigue and intellectual adroitness of a thriller, combined with an exquisite lyricism that turns it into a novel that refuses to stay shut. Breathtaking in scope and painfully human, written with passion and controlled power, A Deep Danger is a kind of contemporary novel, which is worth to be read, enjoyed and savored long after the last page is turned.

Synopsis Spaces of Danger by : Heather Merrill
These twelve original essays by geographers and anthropologists offer a deep critical understanding of Allan Pred’s pathbreaking and eclectic cultural Marxist approach, with a focus on his concept of “situated ignorance”: the production and reproduction of power and inequality by regimes of truth through strategically deployed misinformation, diversions, and silences. As the essays expose the cultural and material circumstances in which situated ignorance persists, they also add a previously underexplored spatial dimension to Walter Benjamin’s idea of “moments of danger.” The volume invokes the aftermath of the July 2011 attacks by far-right activist Anders Breivik in Norway, who ambushed a Labor Party youth gathering and bombed a government building, killing and injuring many. Breivik had publicly and forthrightly declared war against an array of liberal attitudes he saw threatening Western civilization. However, as politicians and journalists interpreted these events for mass consumption, a narrative quickly emerged that painted Breivik as a lone madman and steered the discourse away from analysis of the resurgent right-wing racisms and nationalisms in which he was immersed. The Breivik case is merely one of the most visible recent examples, say editors Heather Merrill and Lisa Hoffman, of the unchallenged production of knowledge in the public sphere. In essays that range widely in topic and setting—for example, brownfield development in China, a Holocaust memorial in Germany, an art gallery exhibit in South Africa—this volume peels back layers of “situated practices and their associated meaning and power relations.” Spaces of Danger offers analytical and conceptual tools of a Predian approach to interrogate the taken-for-granted and make visible and legible that which is silenced.

Synopsis Matter Deep and Dangerous by : Lawrence G. Burch
The arrival of a stranger changes an ordinary evening into one of confusion and uncertainty. Wittmond departs with the mysterious visitor and as a result of his haste, his wife comes across a concealed diary. Entries dating back thirty years tell of exploits around the world. While he and his "associate" attempt to deal with the unexpected and dangerous consequences of a previous mission, she delves into a detailed account of a past she had only vaguely suspected. Perhaps it contains the reason why the danger has come so close to home. About the Author Dr. Lawrence G. Burch earned a PhD in physical chemistry at St. Louis University and began his career as a thermal engineer on both the NASA Apollo and Space Shuttle programs. With the ending of the space program, he went to medical school. After internship and residency, he returned to his hometown of Alton, Illinois, where he practiced internal medicine for thirty years. Now retired, he is engaged in part-time hospital administration consulting and is a guest lecturer on engineering at his high school alma mater. He and his wife now live on a farm in southwestern Illinois, a mile from the neighbor and an hour from "civilization."
