Synopsis A Chip Off The Old Block by : Lloyd Antypowich
This book is a tribute to my second oldest daughter, Cherie. She inspired me to write this story. It takes a special character for people to notice one, good or otherwise. She has been such an inspiration not only to her two children but also to all of us that have an open mind, to choose not to judge, but to take one for what they really are. To some, she will be an inspiration for her love and kindness or maybe for her love for music or the love she has for the outdoors and those magnificent mountains that she so dearly loves. But to me, as her father, it runs a little deeper than that. I see her as a person that has not chosen a path in life that has led her on the road that others have paved the way but has chosen instead to blaze a trail and accept the easy times with the hard times and make the best of it. For such a little person, her tolerance of fear is so high, and that may be because of the way she sees things in life. There is no doubt she guides her life in a little different way than most of us. Her positive attitude makes her what she is. I gave this story the name I did because she loves so many of the same things that I do, yet she came in such a small package and has done such a good job of it.

Synopsis A Chip Off the Old Block by : TJ Gonzales
"A Chip Off the Old Block", is about Charles Milles Manson’s fictional son. The serial killer/kidnapper is named Henry Smith and his biological parents are Manson and Former Family Member, Susan Atkins. In this novel, former Family Member, Frieda Smith took the infant when Atkins and Manson were arrested on the murders of Tate/Labianca. The book has some similar situations to the Cleveland kidnappings and rescue case. This book contains a scenario in which the kidnapper has kept three females alive for his pleasure at the same time. The book also deals with the Stockholm syndrome. The Suspect also has a job that one would not suspect of doing any wrong doing. Like Ariel Castro being a bus driver; the suspect is a Fresno Police Department Dispatcher. The kidnappings occur in the counties of Merced, Madera, Fresno, and Stanislaus.

Synopsis A Chip Off the Old Block and Cleaver: A Memoir, A Cookbook, A Dollop of Poetry by : cg williams
"Chip Off the Old Block and Cleaver: A Memoir, A Cookbook, A Dollop of Poetry" represents the first foray into book writing by this author; it is the completed realization of at least one of my personal pipe dreams picked off before my demise. I discovered that, during the course of writing the memoir portion, I actually had a lot of living to look back on with a semblance of pride and a fair share of variety, given my experiences as a proud Western New Yorker by birth, with an even more interesting smorgasbord of work experiences once moving REALLY upstate to Lake Placid. I became a Jersey guy upon graduation from college (in Ohio) and embraced the Garden State as my new home, and found it just as hospitable and appealing as The Empire State had been. I discovered my professional niche while working in a well-regarded private psychiatric hospital and fell in love with being part of the healing which transpired there. In the past 10+ years since full-time retirement I have endeavored to capitalize on the food funnery by writing the recipes I had collected over so many years, and spreading the wealth, as it were, to anyone who loves to cook good, unostentatious grub. I thought I might just as well add the lyrical musings amassed over the years as a cherry on the top of the recipes. The only question remaining: will people appreciate a life journal, a handful of recipes, and some fine arts literature all in the same book? That remains to be seen. Here's hoping.

Synopsis The Insider's View by : Javid Chowdhury
In this illuminating memoir Javid Chowdhury shares his varied experiences over four decades in the IAS: the years in training when he imbibed the service’s ethos and values; his initiation into the rural universe as the District Development Officer and the District Magistrate; and further on, to his handling of the infamous Bank Securities and Jain Hawala scams as Director of Enforcement and Union Revenue Secretary. With a light pen, Chowdhury describes the changing social profile and attitudes of entrants to the higher civil services; the nepotism, in many garbs, that he encountered as Establishment Officer; and the stranger-than-fiction tortuous investigations of crimes. He also offers his nuanced reflections on the dubious legacy Gujarat acquired as a result of the communal carnage in 2002. Chowdhury further examines how policymaking within government came to be whittled away under the neo-liberal theology, with key scrutiny being left to external expert think tanks and ad hoc groups. As a consequence, he perceives that public accountability came to be inordinately diffused, resulting in the roller-coaster governance that we witness today. Sharp and insightful, replete with telling anecdotes and amusing sketches of icons, colleagues and ministers, The Insider’s View is a compelling portrait of the author, a self-confessed welfare socialist, besides being an X-ray of the innards of the bureaucracy.

Synopsis The Mathematics of Chip-Firing by : Caroline J. Klivans
The Mathematics of Chip-firing is a solid introduction and overview of the growing field of chip-firing. It offers an appreciation for the richness and diversity of the subject. Chip-firing refers to a discrete dynamical system — a commodity is exchanged between sites of a network according to very simple local rules. Although governed by local rules, the long-term global behavior of the system reveals fascinating properties. The Fundamental properties of chip-firing are covered from a variety of perspectives. This gives the reader both a broad context of the field and concrete entry points from different backgrounds. Broken into two sections, the first examines the fundamentals of chip-firing, while the second half presents more general frameworks for chip-firing. Instructors and students will discover that this book provides a comprehensive background to approaching original sources. Features: Provides a broad introduction for researchers interested in the subject of chip-firing The text includes historical and current perspectives Exercises included at the end of each chapter About the Author: Caroline J. Klivans received a BA degree in mathematics from Cornell University and a PhD in applied mathematics from MIT. Currently, she is an Associate Professor in the Division of Applied Mathematics at Brown University. She is also an Associate Director of ICERM (Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics). Before coming to Brown she held positions at MSRI, Cornell and the University of Chicago. Her research is in algebraic, geometric and topological combinatorics.
