Synopsis A Call from the Dark by : Mike Fisher
Call From The Dark - Synopsis By Michael Fisher Everything in the universe is random, and we have no control over life or what happens to us. That is how Mike Fisher, a quadriplegic who uses a wheelchair and is paralyzed from the chest down, sees it. If there is a God pointing at people and cursing them with diseases, that’s no one he wants to meet anyway. Fisher reveals what led him to be crippled and tries to make sense of the dark apocalyptic world he finds himself in this memoir about facing death. It’s a world where his mind is chased by darkness and ghosts visit regularly. Through this reflection, Fisher also provides his thoughts on a myriad of philosophies, psychology, and more. This is also the story of his wife, Amanda, who has been the author’s guardian angel while battling health problems of her own. They were an ordinary couple head over heels in love when he fell ill. This account isn’t about seeking sympathy as the author believes in just getting on with it— pulling up his pants and battling through is something he’s always done. Join the author as he celebrates his survival and explores what life means in A Call from the Dark.

Dark. Sweet. offers readers the sweep of LindaHogan's work—environmental and spiritual concerns, her Chickasaw heritage—in spare, elemental, visionary language. Her poetry has received an American Book Award, Colorado Book Award, and a National Book Critics Circle nomination.

Synopsis Mechwarrior: Dark Age #2: A Call to Arms (A BattleTech Novel) by : Loren Coleman
Months have passed since the interplanetary communications net was destroyed, isolating planets across the Republic of the Sphere. Achernar is one of the few worlds still in possession of a working Hyperpulse Generator Station, capable of communications across the galaxy—and a much sought-after prize for the splintering factions of the Republic to acquire. Raul Ortega failed to qualify as an active MechWarrior, finding some solace in the Republic’s military reserves on Achernar and dreaming of the day he might know the adventure and glory of real combat. The Republic-loyal forces of Achernar whom Raul serves are supported by a loose alliance with the Swordsworn, a faction pledged to House Davion, whose leaders have an agenda of their own. When the planet falls under siege by yet another splinter group, the Steel Wolves, who are intent on capturing the HPG station, Raul is called to active duty. But when the Swordsworn desert Achernar in its time of need, Raul discovers that there’s little honor in the brutal realities of war and the subtle nuances of treachery...

Synopsis The Dark Fantastic by : Ebony Elizabeth Thomas
Reveals the diversity crisis in children's and young adult media as not only a lack of representation, but a lack of imagination Stories provide portals into other worlds, both real and imagined. The promise of escape draws people from all backgrounds to speculative fiction, but when people of color seek passageways into the fantastic, the doors are often barred. This problem lies not only with children’s publishing, but also with the television and film executives tasked with adapting these stories into a visual world. When characters of color do appear, they are often marginalized or subjected to violence, reinforcing for audiences that not all lives matter. The Dark Fantastic is an engaging and provocative exploration of race in popular youth and young adult speculative fiction. Grounded in her experiences as YA novelist, fanfiction writer, and scholar of education, Thomas considers four black girl protagonists from some of the most popular stories of the early 21st century: Bonnie Bennett from the CW’s The Vampire Diaries, Rue from Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games, Gwen from the BBC’s Merlin, and Angelina Johnson from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter. Analyzing their narratives and audience reactions to them reveals how these characters mirror the violence against black and brown people in our own world. In response, Thomas uncovers and builds upon a tradition of fantasy and radical imagination in Black feminism and Afrofuturism to reveal new possibilities. Through fanfiction and other modes of counter-storytelling, young people of color have reinvisioned fantastic worlds that reflect their own experiences, their own lives. As Thomas powerfully asserts, “we dark girls deserve more, because we are more.”
