We will always select for you three great works to instigate your mind, this time the topic is:Boxing. - 7 Best Short Stories Of Boxing - Rodney Stone by Arthur Conan Doyle - The Game by Jack LondonOf all sports, boxing has been the writers' favorite. Maybe it's because of his need for persistence and resilience, perhaps for the narratives of victory and defeat, perhaps even for the relatable solitude of the boxer who faces his challenge in the ring; boxing has inspired large pieces of fiction that enchanted generations. In 7 best short stories of Boxing the critic August Nemo selected some great stories where the pugilismo is the main subject. Rodney Stone is a Gothic mystery and boxing novel by Scottish writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle first published in 1896. The eponymous narrator is a Sussex country boy who is taken to London by his uncle Sir Charles Tregellis, a highly respected gentleman and arbiter of fashion who is on familiar terms with the most important people of Great Britain. The Game is a 1905 novel by Jack London about a twenty-year-old boxer Joe, who meets his death in the ring. London was a sports reporter for the Oakland Herald and based the novel on his personal observations. This is one of at least four stories London wrote about boxing, the others being "A Piece of Steak" (1909), "The Mexican" (1911), and The Abysmal Brute (1911). We will always select for you three great works to instigate your mind, this time the topic is: Dublin. - Dubliners by James Joyce. - The House by the Church-Yard by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu - The Cairn on the Headland by Robert E. HowardDubliners is a collection of fifteen short stories by James Joyce, first published in 1914. They form a naturalistic depiction of Irish middle class life in and around Dublin in the early years of the 20th century. The House by the Churchyardis a novel by Sheridan Le Fanu that combines elements of the mystery novel and the historical novel. Aside from its own merits, the novel is important as a key source for James Joyce's Finnegans Wake. The Cairn on the Headland is a short story by American writer Robert E. As often in Howard stories, there is a link to the Cthulhu Mythos, in this case mixed also with elements of both Norse Mythology and Catholic Christianity. Synopsis 3 Books to Know: Literary Modernism by : August Nemo
Welcome to the 3 Books To Know series, our idea is to help readers learn about fascinating topics through three essential and relevant books. These carefully selected works can be fiction, non-fiction, historical documents or even biographies. We will always select for you three great works to instigate your mind, this time the topic is: Literary modernism - Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka - The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald - Ulysses by James JoyceThe Metamorphosis (German: Die Verwandlung) is a novella written by Franz Kafka which was first published in 1915. One of Kafka's best-known works, The Metamorphosis tells the story of salesman Gregor Samsa who wakes one morning to find himself inexplicably transformed into a huge insect and subsequently struggling to adjust to this new condition. The novella has been widely discussed among literary critics, with differing interpretations being offered. The Great Gatsby is a 1925 novel written by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald that follows a cast of characters living in the fictional towns of West Egg and East Egg on prosperous Long Island in the summer of 1922. The story primarily concerns the young and mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and his quixotic passion and obsession with the beautiful former debutante Daisy Buchanan. Considered to be Fitzgerald's magnum opus, The Great Gatsby explores themes of decadence, idealism, resistance to change, social upheaval, and excess, creating a portrait of the Roaring Twenties that has been described as a cautionary tale regarding the American Dream. Ulysses is a modernist novel by Irish writer James Joyce. It was first serialised in parts in the American journal The Little Review from March 1918 to December 1920 and then published in its entirety in Paris by Sylvia Beach on 2 February 1922, Joyce's 40th birthday. It is considered to be one of the most important works of modernist literature and has been called "a demonstration and summation of the entire movement." According to Declan Kiberd, "Before Joyce, no writer of fiction had so foregrounded the process of thinking". This is one of many books in the series 3 Books To Know.
