Synopsis 25 Indispensable Qualities of a Credible and Competent Minister by : Francis Bola Akin-John
Someone cannot just wake up one morning and proclaim himself a bonafide member of the Medical Association; Lawyers Council; Pilots Association or Engineering council, without having gone to their school and pass through the process of becoming a recognized member of such prestigious bodies. If anyone tried it, he would be labeled a quack and an impostor! Well, the reverse is the case in Christian ministry. Anyone can just wake up and call himself or herself a minister of the gospel with high sounding and self-awarded titles. Denominations also have not helped matters. People are made ministers indiscriminately. Bible colleges and seminaries have also not fared better. People buy doctoral titles and upon graduation are ordained as ministers of the gospel. With all these errors, small wonder we have lots of incompetent and incredible ministers all over the place today. This book by Dr. Akin-John is the humble attempt to bring sanity to this malaise. He wrote on: * Who is a true gospel minister? * Why incompetent ministers are on the increase. * Qualities of competent and credible ministers. * Factors that define a competent minister. * Jesus' Favourite Minister and many more. This is a classic work on how to become relevant, current and time-tested ministers of the gospel. This is a training manual for ministers and should often be consulted for guidance and advice. It is highly recommended for every minister, denominations, ministers screening boards and training institutions.

Synopsis Christian Law by : Norman Doe
Christian Law: Contemporary Principles offers a detailed comparison of the laws of churches across ten distinct Christian traditions worldwide: Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, Lutheran, Methodist, Reformed, Presbyterian, United, Congregational and Baptist. From this comparison, Professor Doe proposes that all denominations of the faith share common principles in spite of their doctrinal divisions; and that these principles reveal a concept of 'Christian law' and contribute to a theological understanding of global Christian identity. Adopting a unique interdisciplinary approach, the book provides comprehensive coverage on the sources and purposes of church law, the faithful (lay and ordained), the institutions of church governance, discipline and dispute resolution, doctrine and worship, the rites of passage, ecumenism, property and finance, as well as church, State and society. This is an invaluable resource for lawyers and theologians who are engaged in ecumenical and interfaith dialogue, showing how dogmas may divide but laws link Christians across traditions.

Synopsis British Cabinet Ministers by : Bruce Headey
First published in 1974, British Cabinet Ministers is about the opportunities and constraints of executive political office. It is mainly based on interviews with fifty contemporary British Ministers and twenty-five senior civil servants. Hitherto political observers have referred simply to ‘strong’ and ‘weak’ Ministers, which begs the question ‘“strong” or “weak” at what?’ Here Ministers are classified into five types—policy initiators, policy selectors, Executive and Ambassador Ministers, and Minimalists—depending on their different approaches to their jobs. The problems Ministers face in achieving their objectives are analysed and case studies are presented of the performance in office of different types of Ministers. In this context, we review the skills and abilities of politicians themselves and the range and quality of advice they can expect to receive in Whitehall. In the final section, the author considers the consequences for British government of the finding that Ministers are better qualified to perform some of their roles than others, and also indicates lines of inquiry that need to be further pursued by students of executive political leadership.
