Synopsis THz Communications by : Thomas Kürner
This book describes the fundamentals of THz communications, spanning the whole range of applications, propagation and channel models, RF transceiver technology, antennas, baseband techniques, and networking interfaces. The requested data rate in wireless communications will soon reach from 100 Gbit/s up to 1 Tbps necessitating systems with ultra-high bandwidths of several 10s of GHz which are available only above 200 GHz. In the last decade, research at these frequency bands has made significant progress, enabling mature experimental demonstrations of so-called THz communications, which are thus expected to play a vital role in future wireless networks. In addition to chapters by leading experts on the theory, modeling, and implementation of THz communication technology, the book also features the latest experimental results and addresses standardization and regulatory aspects. This book will be of interest to both academic researchers and engineers in the telecommunications industry.

Synopsis Terahertz Wave Detection and Imaging with a Hot Rydberg Vapour by : Christopher G. Wade
This book details groundbreaking experiments for the sensing and imaging of terahertz-frequency electromagnetic radiation (THz) using Rydberg atoms. The major advances described include the development and implementation of a new technique for THz imaging using atomic fluorescence; the demonstration of a THz-driven phase transition in room-temperature atomic vapour; and a novel method for probing the excited-state dynamics of atoms using quantum beats. The work has formed the basis for several articles published in journals including Nature Photonics and the Physical Review, and has sparked industry interest, becoming the subject of ongoing collaborative research and development. This exceptionally well-written book provides a definitive account of terahertz sensing with Rydberg atoms.

Synopsis Broadband Terahertz Communication Technologies by : Jianjun Yu
This book highlights the comprehensive knowledge and latest progress in broadband terahertz (THz) technology. THz communication technology is believed to be one of the major choices that succeed the fifth-generation (5G) communication technology. With years of efforts, the author’s team has created a number of world records in the generation, transmission, and reception of ultra wideband THz signal, realizing the MIMO transmission and reception of THz communication, the THz signal transmission with communication capacity of 1 Tbit / s, and the optical fiber and THz integrated transmission. A variety of linear and nonlinear algorithms for multi-carrier and single-carrier THz communication systems are developed, which greatly improves the transmission performance of broadband systems. The book covers in details the broadband THz signal generation, long-distance transmission, and high sensitivity detection. It is of great reference value for researchers, engineers, and graduate students in optical and wireless communications.

Synopsis Next Generation Wireless Terahertz Communication Networks by : Saim Ghafoor
The rapid growth of the data traffic demands new ways to achieve high-speed wireless links. The backbone networks, data centers, mission-critical applications, as well as end-users sitting in office or home, all require ultra-high throughput and ultra-low latency wireless links. Sophisticated technological advancement and huge bandwidth are required to reduce the latency. Terahertz band, in this regard, has a huge potential to provide these high-capacity links where a user can download the file in a few seconds. To realize the high-capacity wireless links for future applications, in this book, different aspects of the Terahertz band wireless communication network are presented. This book highlights the Terahertz channel characteristics and modeling, antenna design and beamforming, device characterization, applications, and protocols. It also provides state-of-the-art knowledge on different communication aspects of Terahertz communication and techniques to realize the true potential of the Terahertz band for wireless communication.

Synopsis Terahertz Technology and Its Applications by : Victor Pacheco Peña
The Terahertz frequency range (0.1 – 10)THz has demonstrated to provide many opportunities in prominent research fields such as high-speed communications, biomedicine, sensing, and imaging. This spectral range, lying between electronics and photonics, has been historically known as “terahertz gap” because of the lack of experimental as well as fabrication technologies. However, many efforts are now being carried out worldwide in order improve technology working at this frequency range. This book represents a mechanism to highlight some of the work being done within this range of the electromagnetic spectrum. The topics covered include non-destructive testing, teraherz imaging and sensing, among others.
