The 2013 revised supplementary methods and good practice guidance arising from the Kyoto Protocol (KP Supplement) describes the supplementary methods and good practice guidance for measuring, estimating and reporting of anthropogenic greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removals resulting from land use, land: use change and forestry (LULUCF) activities covered by the Kyoto Protocol (KP) for the second commitment period (CP). This document addresses activities under Article 3.3, Forest Management and elective activities under Article 3.4. The supplementary methods and good practice guidance of this document are relevant to each Party included in Annex I that have ratified the KP for the second CP and for other countries interested in the updated guidance.

Greenhouse gas emissions by the livestock sector could be cut by as much as 30 percent through the wider use of existing best practices and technologies. FAO conducted a detailed analysis of GHG emissions at multiple stages of various livestock supply chains, including the production and transport of animal feed, on-farm energy use, emissions from animal digestion and manure decay, as well as the post-slaughter transport, refrigeration and packaging of animal products. This report represents the most comprehensive estimate made to-date of livestocks contribution to global warming as well as the sectors potential to help tackle the problem. Accounting rules and procedures will dictate how progress is tracked for various possible types of mitigation contributions that might be included in the 2015 agreement and how their achievement will be determined. Without such rules, it will be difficult, if not impossible, to accurately track progress toward individual contributions as well as towards limiting warming to 2° C or below. The report explores the components of a robust and rigorous accounting framework, lessons learned from existing accounting frame-works, and how such a framework can be developed for the 2015 agreement.
