1012 Natchez is the memoir of Njoki McElroy, growing up in Texas during the Jim Crow years, coming of age in New Orleans, and migrating to Chicago during the Great Migration period. Her grandparents' house at 1012 Natchez, the source of childhood nurturing and adult refuge, connects past and present, North and South, Sherman and Chicago, as well as the three major female characters.
