Synopsis Youth policy in Ukraine by : Ewa Krzaklewska, Howard Williamson

Ukraine is the 19th country overall, and the third of the Commonwealth of independent States (following Armenia and Moldova) to have its youth policy reviewed by the Council of Europe's international review team. Ukraine presented a range of new challenges: it was by far the largest country geographically and it embodied geo-political characteristics (from North to South, and East to West) that are reflected in its philosophy and approach to youth policy development. This international review explores three issues of particular interest to the Ukrainian authorities: health and healthy lifestyles, employment and employability, and patriotic education and citizenship, in addition, the international review pays special attention to questions of youth participation and engagement, and to those groups of "vulnerable" young people who are at most risk of social exclusion. The review argues for the establishment of a more open development model for youth policy in Ukraine, supported by a clear strategic vision and the strengthening of its commitment to local capacity and autonomy in shaping relevant programmes and projects, in particular, it also advocates the promotion of more diverse methodologies in the implementation of youth policy, based on non-formal learning and skills-development principles.

Synopsis Looking to the future by : Howard Williamson

Substantive issues, methodological lessons, support measures and youth policy standards: a reflection on the “third seven” Council of Europe international reviews of national youth policy The Council of Europe’s 21 international reviews of national youth policy have, over 20 years, produced a significant body of knowledge and a respected, innovative methodology. They have considerably enhanced the understanding and the development of “youth policy” throughout Europe. Following the first seven international reviews, a synthesis report was produced that endeavoured to construct a framework for understanding youth policy. A similar synthesis exercise took place after a further seven international reviews, reflecting both on the evolving process of carrying out the reviews and on new themes and issues for youth policy that had not emerged within the initial framework. This book, the third concerned with supporting young people in Europe, is a synthesis of the last seven international reviews, coupled with an overview of the learning that has accrued from all 21 international reviews. It draws together some of the conclusions and challenges that have emerged over two decades and considers some lessons for the future, not least alternative models of engagement in the youth field between the Council of Europe and its member states.

Synopsis Youth Policy Manual by : Finn Yrjar Denstad

How do institutions such as the European Union, the Council of Europe and the United Nations address youth policy, and how can this work be concretely linked to the efforts of a national government to develop a youth policy agenda? This manual proposes one possible model for how a national youth policy strategy can be developed. It is based on the author's observations from the countries of southeastern and eastern Europe, as they gain experience in addressing youth policy in a transversal and cross-sectorial manner and with the active involvement of young people.--Publisher's description.

Synopsis Young People and the Belt and Road:Opportunities and Challenges in Central and Eastern Europe by :

Young People and the Belt and Road is a joint effort by over 40 young people across 20 countries to tell their stories about the future of Central and Eastern Europe, China, and the Belt and Road Initiative. In 2013, the Belt and Road Initiative, which envisions a world with better development, better connectivity, and better cooperation was launched in Kazakhstan,. As a global, multi-generational vision, the Belt and Road Initiative will primarily benefit the young people of the world today. To ensure the success of the Initiative, their voices need to be heard. This is particularly urgent as little systematic work has been done to encourage the participation of young people. This publication places the focus on young people and asks them the question: what should the Belt and Road Initiative look like for you? In this book, young authors from 16 Central and Eastern European nations share insights about their countries. For the Belt and Road Initiative, Central and Eastern Europe plays a critical role in linking together Western Europe, Northern Europe, Central Asia, and East Asia. Each chapter focuses on a single country in the region. Based on the complex historical background and present realities of their respective countries, the authors present their cases of the potential obstacles and opportunities related to the Initiative and provide their suggestions for change.

Synopsis Socio-Economic Perspectives on Vocational Skill Development: Emerging Research and Opportunities by : Okolie, Ugochukwu Chinonso

Vocational skill development (VSD) has the capacity to contribute to poverty reduction because it serves as the key to job creation and inclusive growth. As developed nations have been faced with high youth and graduate unemployment rates, basic education and vocational skill development have become a priority of development cooperation activities. However, there is a realization that measures to improve skill training can only be successful if they are in harmony with employment and economic policies. Socio-Economic Perspectives on Vocational Skill Development: Emerging Research and Opportunities is a collection of innovative research on the methods and applications of equipping individuals with relevant work skills and implementing effective skills systems that can lead to economic growth and high levels of productivity. While highlighting topics including human capital, professional development, and skill gaps, this book is ideally designed for managers, business professionals, policymakers, academicians, researchers, and management students seeking the current understanding of the strategic role of skill development at different levels of the socio-economic system.
