She Is Hope. She Is the Leader. She Is the Messiah. She Is History. She Is Fake. The video artist Yael Bartana (b. Kfar Yehezkel, Israel, 1970; lives and works in Amsterdam and Berlin) makes work that explores the visual language of identity and the politics of commemoration. The critical scrutiny of collective expectations of political or religious salvation is a central concern in her art. In the video installation Malka Germania--Hebrew for "Queen Germany"--Bartana creates alternative realities from the German-Jewish past and present that bring scenes of the collective unconscious to light. The publication follows the epiphany of Malka Germania, a female redeemer figure, in five chapters whose layout is modeled on that of the Talmud, the central text in Rabbinical Judaism. This organization reflects the polyphonic complexity, rich nuance, and ambivalence that the work casts into visuals and underscores that there is no simple answer. The book includes an interview with the artist and contributions by Sami Berdugo, Christina von Braun, Michael Brenner, Max Czollek, and others. Yael Bartana (born in 1970 in Israel) makes work largely about her conflicted homeland. She has an exceptionally sensitive eye for public ritual and ceremony, both organized and spontaneous. Her videos document such moments, often slowing them down or editing them in ways that focus on the intimate actions that define a person's public persona and private uncertainties.

Sixteen international artists at the forefront of feminism This book focuses on a selection of midcareer international artists whose oeuvres are informed by the legacies of feminist thought. Each artist adds to the feminist discourse, whether by reclaiming women's marginalized creative histories, using gender discrimination as a method of institutional critique or creating alternate research methodologies that confront patriarchal norms. The book includes sculpture, painting, video, installation and performance art, and features lesser-known projects or entirely new commissions that recast sociopolitical realities throughout the world. In addition to extensive illustrations, the book includes essays by Anne Ellegood and Connie Butler, curators and art historians whose practices have also been dedicated to a discussion of women's rights. This is the first book of its kind to feature interdisciplinary art history and disability studies. Moving away from the medical model of disability that is often scrutinized in art history, the book considers the social model and representations of disabled figures. Topics addressed include visible versus invisible impairments; scientific, anthropological, and vernacular images of disability; and the implications of looking/staring versus gazing. Disability and Art History explores ways in which art responds to, envisions, and at times stereotypes and pathologizes disability, and aims to contextualize disability historically, as well as in terms of medicine, literature, and visual culture.

Solution 196-213: United States of Palestine-Israel is an anthology of texts proposing a doable solution for the region. With contributors based in Ramallah and Tel Aviv-Jaffa, Beirut and Jerusalem, New York and Bethlehem, Nazareth and Warsaw, the book offers solutions that will make life better, and proposes ways to do it. "Solution" is a tricky term especially in relation to the ongoing newspeak of the last two decades in Palestine-Israel. In their contributions for this book, Sandi Hilal, Alessandro Petti, and Eyal Weizman suggest revisiting the term "decolonization," "in order to maintain a distance from the current political terms of a 'solution' to the Palestinian conflict and its respective borders. The one-, two- and now three-state solutions seem equally entrapped in a 'topdown' perspective, each with its own self-referential logic." Unlike previous books in the Solution series, this book invited several writers from the region to suggest specific and doable solutions for today. This is mainly since it seems absurd to present a one-man master plan for Palestine-Israel. In many senses, such master plans (whether they take a colonial, Zionist or other meta-narrative lead) have been the mold of the problem in the region for at least the last 150 years. Against the Anthropocene scrutinizes the proposal that we are in a human-driven epoch regarding climate change. In this slender but dense volume, cultural theorist T.J.
