Synopsis Peace Came in the Form of a Woman by : Juliana Barr
Revising the standard narrative of European-Indian relations in America, Juliana Barr reconstructs a world in which Indians were the dominant power and Europeans were the ones forced to accommodate, resist, and persevere. She demonstrates that between the 1690s and 1780s, Indian peoples including Caddos, Apaches, Payayas, Karankawas, Wichitas, and Comanches formed relationships with Spaniards in Texas that refuted European claims of imperial control. Barr argues that Indians not only retained control over their territories but also imposed control over Spaniards. Instead of being defined in racial terms, as was often the case with European constructions of power, diplomatic relations between the Indians and Spaniards in the region were dictated by Indian expressions of power, grounded in gendered terms of kinship. By examining six realms of encounter--first contact, settlement and intermarriage, mission life, warfare, diplomacy, and captivity--Barr shows that native categories of gender provided the political structure of Indian-Spanish relations by defining people's identity, status, and obligations vis-a-vis others. Because native systems of kin-based social and political order predominated, argues Barr, Indian concepts of gender cut across European perceptions of racial difference.

Synopsis Finding God's Peace in Everyday Challenges by : Heidi Bratton
For those who choose the way of Jesus Christ, peace is not only possible but to be expected. Peace, in fact, is a part of the package deal of the Catholic faith, because the Lord Jesus himself is our peace. In one hundred short meditations, author Heidi Bratton leads women to consider how they can live out the peace that Christ promises: in their homes, finances, jobs, parishes, and in their relationships with their spouses, families, and children. Her real-life examples show us that peace can be lived in difficult and challenging circumstances. Each meditation ends with a heartfelt prayer. Even when our faith is strong, we can struggle with staying peaceful. This book is a constant reminder that peace is a gift from God, something that we can ask for and receive every day of our lives.

Synopsis Women Building Peace by : Sanam Naraghi Anderlini
How and why do women's contributions matter in peace and security processes? Why should women's activities in this sphere be explored separately from peacebuilding efforts in general? Decisively answering these questions, Sanam Anderlini offers a comprehensive, cross-regional analysis of women's peacebuilding initiatives around the world. and highlights the endemic problems that stunt progress. Her astute analysis, based on extensive research and field experience, demonstrates how gender sensitivity in programming can be a catalytic component in the complex task of building sustainable peace and provides concrete examples of how to draw on women's untapped potential.
