Yes, that's Munchkin Land. And just when I thought it couldn't get worse, a braided girl from Kansas started flinging houses, commandeering my favorite shoes, and terrorizing my Munchkin subjects. As passions flare and alliances form, my journey is not just about reclaiming my territory-it's also a quest filled with forbidden romances and fiery encounters. With everything on the line, I must not only save my kingdom but also protect the hearts that beat together in its defense.Scarecrow: Tales from Oz offers a bold, adult spin on the fabled journey to Oz. From Robert Browning’s The Pied Piper of Hamelin and William Makepeace Thackeray’s The Rose and the Ring to Kenneth Grahme’s The Reluctant Dragon and J. M. Barrie’s Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens, here are seventeen classic stories and poems from the golden age of the English fairy tale. Some of them amuse, some enchant, some satirize and criticize, but each one is an expression of the joy of living. Accompanied by illustrations from the original editions of these works this collection will delight readers both young and old. Part of the Pantheon Fairy Tale and Folklore Library

In Chicago, an ordinary key unlocks a magical trunk packed with robbers and a pie. In Boston, five magical bon-bons make an ordinary senator, an ordinary professor, an ordinary girl and her ordinary parents do the most extraordinary things A young cowboy lassoes Father Time; the dummy in Mr. Floman's department store window comes to life; and a tiny beetle gives a New England farmer and his wife a pump which pumps not water, but gold Author of the much-loved Oz books, L. Frank Baum transforms the familiar with his magical mix of humor and enchantment. Most of the twelve stories in this delightful collection are set in America where, so it seems, modern fairies, knooks, and ryls are always causing the most astonishing things to happen These tales will enchant both young and old. When American Fairy Tales first appeared, Baum's reputation as a storyteller had already been established by The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, written in 1900. The twelve stories in this collection were originally syndicated weekly in at least five newspapers during the first half of 1901. The first book edition, which this facsimile reprints, came out later that year.

For all her life Azriel knew nothing but the darkness. She could remember the words of her mother well when she was just a babe learning how to crawl. She was a disgusting thing, they told her; she should go die, they told her. The only source of light she had was her twin brother, Benhiram, but that too was short-lived. Not long after her village was razed to the ground and her parents perished along with it, her brother passed away, leaving her to fend for herself in this dark, solemn world. Azriel was only ten years old; she didn't know any better. She was just an innocent girl who placed her trust in people, causing her to be taken advantage of. She became a branded slave, thrown around like a ragdoll from one noble after another until she found her permanent home as a whipping child for a noble family. Not a day would pass without red welts and purple bruises blooming on Azriel's back hidden beneath her shirt, and when she was not being beaten, she was made to run errands and do chores. Her once smooth hands turned rough, and her back grew coarse from the repeated scarring. This was the life Azriel lived. She had no hope, no faith that someone would rescue her from the abyss. The once enduring faith that she would be saved slowly flickered out of existence, but little did she know that the hope she had long abandoned would return in a form far different than what she had ever imagined.

This Children stories book is 100 years old being published in 1916 and is now in the public domain.Being part of the Top of the World Stories for Boys and Girls it was written by Finnish author Zachris Topelius for the children of Finland and Sweden and then translated to English by Emilie and Laura Poulsson. It was initially called: THE PRINCESS LINDAGULL.It is, an Arabian Nights tale, and tells the story of Shah Nadir the might King of Persia and his much loved and beautiful daughter The Princess Arabella who, as well as beauty, had a heart noble, tender and good and there was no one in Shah Nadir's whole kingdom who did not love the Princess. The Princess is kidnapped by the evil Wizard Hirmu who took her far away to Lapland. The brave young Arab prince Abderraman made it his mission to rescue the Princess and after much searching and tribulations he found the Princess Arabella and took her back to her father. The grateful King gave the Princess's hand in marriage to the Prince and they married and lived happily ever after.I have left the story in its original version, it is as topical today as it was then, but I have edited a lot of the old style words to make them look and sound modern. I have added some new illustration to make it a much more pleasant experience to the reader and, more importantly, I have changed the name of the Princess to: PRINCESS ARABELLA and the title of the book to: The Princess Arabella, the Prince and the Wizard, an Arabian Nights Fairy Tale.
