Repetition in the English Language is the repeating of a word, within a sentence in order to PROVIDE EMPHASIS. ‘Repetition of words’ could be classified into many groups based on the placement of the words in a sentence. Different terms have been devised to denote different kinds of repetitions. Some of these terms are as follows: Adnominatio, Conduplicatio, Diacope, Epistrophe, Mesodiplosis, Palilogia, Polyptoton, Symploce, etc. Not going into the details of these ‘hard-to-pronounce’ terms, I have covered only the most popular patterns of ‘Repetition of words’ in this book. Structure (1) ---- Word + and + Word This pattern is generally used to show ‘continuation or repetition of an activity, or ‘presence of many things or people of the same kind’. 1. -- She asked and asked about the money. 2a. -- Stars, planets, and galaxies emerged and evolved billions and billions of years ago. 2b. -- They have got billions and billions of dollars lying around in vaults. 3. -- There has been campaign and campaign against us for a very long time. 4. -- Wastage of water must be discouraged and discouraged. 5. -- Workers dug and dug the road. 6. -- We have eras and eras coming. 7. -- He called after her, “Where are you going?” She went further and further. 8a. -- His confidence grew and grew. 8b. -- Once he started telling family about his challenge, the support just grew and grew. 9a. -- ‘How long did the match last?’ ‘Oh, hours and hours’ 9b. -- Oats are a complex carbohydrate which means they will fuel your body for hours and hours. 10. -- Merit and merit alone can be criteria. 11. -- The road went on for miles and miles. 12. -- My travel plan was mired and mired in utter confusion. 13. -- He has nurtured and nurtured his reputation as a master tactician. 14. -- They played and played cards all night. NOTE: (A). ‘Again and again’ [meaning -- many times] She was wiping her tears again and again. Many people do not repeat their mistakes again and again. (B). ‘By and by’ [meaning -- after a short period; before long; soon | eventually] By and by you will make your deficiency. The hours just kept on going by and by. (C). ‘Half and half’ [meaning -- in equal parts] We are lucky that it is affordable rent, and sharing half and half helps (D). ‘Less and less’ [meaning -- continuing to become smaller] We are having less and less snow each year. Old people seem to sleep less and less actually. (E). ‘More and more’ [meaning -- continuing to become larger in amount or number] You always ask for more and more. More and more girls are giving priority to their careers. (F). ‘Neck and neck’ [meaning -- level with somebody in competition] Democrats and Republicans were neck and neck on 50 seats. These two candidates are neck and neck in recent polls. NOTE: Great Stress— Word + And + Word + And + Word 1a. -- He just smacked him with a ruler again and again and again. 1b. -- If at first, you don't succeed, try again and again and again. 2. -- Their pain and the anger grew and grew and grew, 3. -- They are paying him millions and millions, and more millions. 4. -- There is a huge problem in this town and it has been going on and on and on.

Synopsis When You Are Engulfed in Flames by : David Sedaris

"David Sedaris's ability to transform the mortification of everyday life into wildly entertaining art," (The Christian Science Monitor) is elevated to wilder and more entertaining heights than ever in this remarkable new book. Trying to make coffee when the water is shut off, David considers using the water in a vase of flowers and his chain of associations takes him from the French countryside to a hilariously uncomfortable memory of buying drugs in a mobile home in rural North Carolina. In essay after essay, Sedaris proceeds from bizarre conundrums of daily life-having a lozenge fall from your mouth into the lap of a fellow passenger on a plane or armoring the windows with LP covers to protect the house from neurotic songbirds-to the most deeply resonant human truths. Culminating in a brilliant account of his venture to Tokyo in order to quit smoking, David Sedaris's sixth essay collection is a new masterpiece of comic writing from "a writer worth treasuring" (Seattle Times). Praise for When You Are Engulfed in Flames: "Older, wiser, smarter and meaner, Sedaris...defies the odds once again by delivering an intelligent take on the banalities of an absurd life." --Kirkus Reviews This latest collection proves that not only does Sedaris still have it, but he's also getting better....Sedaris's best stuff will still--after all this time--move, surprise, and entertain." --Booklist Table of Contents: It's Catching Keeping Up The Understudy This Old House Buddy, Can You Spare a Tie? Synopsis Wilder Love by : Emery Rose

I was his weakness. He was my strength. Until I destroyed him.I was infatuated with Shane Wilder since the first time I saw him surfing. But we couldn't be together. Not yet, anyway. I was too young and screwed up. He was too focused on chasing his dream. So we became friends. We met on the rooftop for late-night confessions under the stars. Cruised along the Pacific Coast Highway with the wind in our hair and the sun on our faces.I took photos of all the beautiful and ugly and interesting things, while he traveled the world in search of the perfect waves.I told him I would wait for him. I never meant to lie.I never meant to ruin his life.I. Destroyed. Him. As his star faded, mine burned bright. But as everyone knows, all that glitters is not gold. Now I'm back after seven long years, hoping for a chance to right my wrongs and fix what I've broken. This time I can only hope that loving Shane Wilder will be enough to save him.

Synopsis Still None the Wiser by : Paul Adamson

Still None the Wiser is the final instalment of a memoir sub-titled A Mid-Century Passage, 1932 1967. Part travel, part biographical memoir, part history. It is as much a social and political record of the closing period of colonial West Africa as an account of the quirks and foibles of the British (and other) expatriates at the end of Empire. In 1954 the author aged 22, thwarted in love in London, joined an often eccentric group of expatriates who ran the oldest colonial Bank in West Africa. In Ghana and in Nigeria he experienced the passing of an era. Eric Robson the TV presenter wrote of None the Wiser and its sequel set against an historical background of Britain at war and mislaying an Empire (he) gives us a fascinating glimpse of a lost world. This final part of that memoir ends as Harold MacMillans Winds of Change blow the white man out of Africa. The setting is a long-gone Africa which at its passing was known to few. In earlier centuries of European contact the West African Coast became The White Mans Grave, when the author arrived it had become The White Mans Headache. As the author rightly says, this book is not for the faint-hearted or the nervously disposed. It is probably unsuitable for vegetarians and political correctness remained an unknown concept when many of the incidents he describes occurred. It took many years in the writing and perusing of old notes and diaries, names had to be changed not so much to protect the innocent (who as always are few in number) as much as to avoid offending the survivors among that fast dwindling band of those who were once known as Old Coasters. It perhaps describes a more honest world than we live in today.

Synopsis Septuagenarian by : Sherry Quan Lee

Septuagenarian: love is what happens when I die is a memoir in poetic form. It is the author's journey from being a mixed-race girl who passed for white to being a woman in her seventies who understands and accepts her complex intersectional identity; and no longer has to imagine love. It is a follow-up to the author's previous memoir (prose), Love Imagined: a mixed-race memoir, A Minnesota Book Award finalist. Praise for Sherry Quan Lee's Septuagenarian In Septuagenarian, Sherry Quan Lee accepts her own invitation to look at life in retrospect, but with a new lens. Pulling from and expanding upon her previous body of work, she examines the version of herself that was writing at that time. The dignity and fire of her seventy-three-year-old gaze taking in snapshots of those selves...straightens my spine and gives me a vision for myself traveling today into my future septuagenarian. --Lola Osunkoya, MA, LPCC Sherry Quan Lee writes courageously to understand herself and the world. She uses rich language and her skills as a storyteller to focus her sharp lens on what it means to have a complex, sometimes complicated identity: becoming invisible as she ages, a history of passing unseen, love and sex, grieving and celebration. She ruminates on history, which repeats itself in the current moment and widens her lens to look at the bigger, global picture to tell truths in poems that tenderly hold memory, time, rituals, trauma, mothering, fear of death and love in many forms. Her poems offer deeply personal, intimate and perceptive insights and opportunities to reflect on what it means to truly live. It feels like I've taken the journey with her, and I'm wiser for it. --Shay Youngblood, author of Soul Kiss and Black Girl in Paris Septuagenarian by Sherry Quan Lee, is a book that answers, in many different ways, the question posed in one of the poems contained within: "What does surrender look like?" Surrender looks like passion, like the banishment of shame, like truth telling. The narrator is not afraid of death, but embraces the inseparability and magnitude of opposing forces: "The world is a large body of terror where good and evil coexist, and each of us is responsible." Quan Lee's bold language makes space for living within impossibilities. It is a book that maps, often with aching beauty, many of the author's passions, desires, grief and the circularity of life at seventy, "I have lost so many people over time, but at seventy long-term memory brings them back, both the wicked and the wise...story ends where it begins." -- 신 선 영 辛善英 Sun Yung Shin, author of Unbearable Splendor Learn more at blog.SherryQuanLee.com From Modern History Press
