I write to you through Bassa, of the Niger-Congo family, western Sudanic subgroup and the Kwa branch of Africa. The Bassa are an African people. The central theme of this book is that the Bassa have a form of government, which shows Bassa people can govern themselves, and that they have done so from time immemorial until the interjection of alien leadership philosophy. Non-Africans should be dissuaded from their concept of African inability to govern themselves. Bassa history and leadership shows one aspect of African leadership as well as contributions to human leadership. Presenting the Bassa leadership to the world is a clarion call for all Africans to look to their traditional route to design a form of government that fits their culture.

Since the death of Martin Luther King, Jr., it seems that we as black Americans have lost our way; we, as did the Hebrew Israelites, have been wandering in the "wilderness of sin and debauchery" for forty-plus years and have not been able to enter into the Promised Land. We have followed blind guides who have led us wandering in the wilderness. We have followed self-proclaimed black leaders whose leadership have been marred by deception, dishonesty, egotism, and a lack of integrity. For several years now, I have wrestled and agonized with the disturbing notion "Will somebody please stand up and tell my people the truth?" It is my contention that faith in God does not depend upon proof of his existence as much as what that Gods attitude is toward us. While the Good News proposed by Christian Faith is that Gods attitude was definitively displayed in Jesus, I am suggesting that our Jesus Story must take the Apostle Pauls understanding of Reconciliation seriously. God, too, has to pay the price of Sin. He is part of the problem of our alienation and neither we, nor God, can escape its consequences. Therein lies the POWER, I believe, of the Jesus Story to hold the attention of todays Seeker. Jesus not only died for our sins, he died for Gods Sin as well! Our Sin, was our disobedience. Gods Sin was his Ignorance. It is Paul who, getting his message directly from the Risen Christ, sees this most clearly. Paul wants us to understand that God was in Christs life and death reconciling the world to himself not just forgiving us. Unlike the Jesus Story told by todays Church, Paul sees Gods Grace as much more amazing than mere payment for our peccadilloes.
