Synopsis John Carpenter's Tales of Science Fiction by : Mike Sizemore
Humanity has moved on after the Benson Disaster. In the decades following the loss of the space station along with almost its entire crew a new kind of life has been forged out even further into the Veil Nebula aboard a new type of habitat: The Barringer. But a connection back to Jake Dixon, the man who sacrificed everything to stop a nameless horror reaching Earth, now pulls back those few survivors and an all-new crew to face fresh monsters and familiar terror. From Earth to the cold vacuum of space light years away, from the fragile artificial environment of space stations to the frozen terror of a dead planet... brace yourself. Mankind believes it has tamed the organism freed from the dark years ago. Survivors believe they have seen the last of that horror and those that died stopping it. What they don't know is that they're in John Carpenter's universe and all bets are off. The tendrils are back! The heroics are bigger! The monsters are nastier! And the ride is far from over as the VORTEX reopens.

Synopsis Vortex by : S. J. Kincaid
S. J. Kincaid has created a fascinating dystopian world for Insignia, her futuristic science-fiction adventure series perfect for fans of Ender's Game. Earth is in the middle of WWIII, a war to determine which governments and corporations will control the resources of the solar system. Teen Tom Raines grew up with nothing—some days without even a roof over his head. Then his exceptional gaming skills earned him a spot in the Intrasolar Forces, the country's elite military training program, and his life completely changed. Now in Vortex, the second book in the series, Tom discovers that the Pentagonal Spire, where he and his friends are being trained as superhuman weapons, is filled with corruption. He is asked to betray his friends—the first real friends he's ever had—for the sake of his country. Will he sacrifice his new life to do what he believes is right?

Synopsis Sedona by : Mikel J. Wilson
A love adventure with a truly original sci-fi/metaphysical twist. Sedona is a Northern Arizona town visited as much for its legends of mysterious energy vortexes, UFO sightings and other paranormal activity as it is for the majestic red rock formations that stand sentry over its landscape. Gregor Buckingham, however, is coming because Sedona has been calling to him. A young metaphysician scarred from a childhood fire, Gregor will soon discover a lost ancient power, his first requited love and a mortal enemy he must fight to save them both.

Synopsis The Vortex Blaster by : E. E. "Doc" Smith
Neal "Storm" Cloud failed his Lensman exam, But life has a strange way of making heroes of even those who sometimes fail. Cloud's family is tragically killed when a misguided attempt to blow out a vortex lands one of the fragments right on his house. Devastated by the loss of his family, Cloud takes a leave of absence from the Radiation Lab where he works studying the vortices. As he drives he is struck with an idea for "blowing out" a vortex. It is slightly technical (Smith explains it so it can be easily followed), but the general idea is that Cloud's brain works so fast that he can calculate exactly where the center of the vortex will be at a moment in time and how big an explosive is needed, then hit it with a bomb that is set at the exact strength to actually extinguish the vortex instead of blowing it apart and making more vortices. As it continues the book tells of Cloud's new job as the universe's one and only vortex blaster. This job takes him from planet to planet where he blows out vortices, matches wits against drug dealers and gangsters, meets new life forms, and acquires a crew for his small scout ship. His adventures are many and varied, and the lifeforms he meets are strange and interesting.

Synopsis This Broken World by : Charles E. Gannon
NEW EPIC FANTASY FROM AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR CHARLES E. GANNON. A young man must face dangers from without and within—and question everything he believes to be true. Since boyhood, Druadaen expected he’d ascend to the command of an elite legion and become the leader his father predicted he would be. However, fate had something different in store. Assigned instead to a small group of outriders tasked with watching nearby kingdoms, Druadaen discovers that the world beyond his homeland is riddled with impossibilities. How do humanoid raiders, known as the Bent, suffer staggering losses and yet return as a vast horde every decade? How do multi-ton dragons fly? How have fossils formed in a world which sacrists insist has existed for only ten millennia? Determined to solve these mysteries, Druadaen journeys into the dank warrens of the Bent, seeks out a dragon’s lair, and ventures into long-buried ruins in search of ancient scrolls. But, whereas legends tell of heroes who encounter their greatest perils during just such forays into the unknown, Druadaen’s most lethal enemies might lurk in even more unusual places: The temples and council chambers of his own homeland. At the publisher's request, this title is sold without DRM (Digital Rights Management). About Charles E. Gannon: “Chuck Gannon is one of those marvelous finds—someone as comfortable with characters as he is with technology, and equally adept at providing those characters with problems to solve. Imaginative, fun, and not afraid to step on the occasional toe or gore the occasional sacred cow, his stories do not disappoint.”—David Weber “If we meet strong aliens out there, will we suffer the fate of the Aztecs and Incas, or find the agility to survive? Gannon fizzes with ideas about the dangerous politics of first contact.”—David Brin “Chuck Gannon writes the kind of science fiction we all grew up on: rousing, mind-expanding, pulse-pounding sagas of spaceships and aliens. He's a terrific writer, and we're lucky to have him.” —Robert J. Sawyer “[A] strong [writer of] . . . military SF . . . [much] action going on in his work, with a lot of physics behind it. There is a real sense of the urgency of war and the sacrifices it demands.” —Locus
