Synopsis Unholy Temptation by : Lynn Burke

Enjoy this steamy brother's best friend forbidden gay novel by contemporary romance author Lynn Burke... As an assistant pastor at Simply Grace Church, it’s my duty to abstain from the appearance of evil—which includes keeping my sexual orientation to myself, same as I’ve done with my close-knit family. Yet I knew I was different when at age fourteen, I woke from a dream with the evidence of my desire for him. Aiden McNelis, my older brother’s best friend. But he left for the west coast after graduation, and I chose God. Almost sixteen years later, Aiden’s return catches me unaware, but even more surprising is how he’s changed. He looks at me with more than friendship in his eyes, studies me like he wants to strip me down body and soul. Aiden’s curiosity closely mirrors mine, challenging my spirituality with unholy temptation. But giving into my sinful nature, touching the forbidden, won’t just tear apart the life I’ve built for myself. It will ruin my family as well. Synopsis Unholy Craving by : Lynn Burke

As a newly appointed youth pastor, I blindly walk by faith, stumbling without the promised light down God's chosen path. Until a young man resurrects the sinful nature I've rejected in my strive for purity. Isaac Van Dusen, my pastor's son. He's troubled. Rebellious. Off limits to my lonely heart, yet gives me breath when I feel I'm drowning and in need of a savior. Isaac's hunger for sin rivals mine, the kind that consumes. Burns like fire and brimstone. I'm determined to stay in a constant state of prayer, begging for delivery from temptation-all while dreaming of being on my knees for entirely different reasons. I want to submit to the unholy craving between us and worship the young man entrusted to my spiritual care. But acting on the lusts of the flesh ensures our fall from grace, and I can't allow him to be the second one to pay the price for my sins. Even if it means living a lie for eternity.

Synopsis The Spirit in Redemption by : George Shaw

The field of consciousness is a difficult one to explore. It is also difficult to go outside one's own consciousness in the discussion of those inner states of subjective religion. Consciousness differs in individuals. Therefore there is much confusion among the people concerning the witness of the Spirit to salvation. Some speak of it as an outward voice speaking to the soul, or as an inward voice. Some Christians seem to get a much clearer witness than others, and that leads earnest souls to doubt their acceptance with God, because they have not had that vision at conversion that some Christians claim to have had. -from "The Witness of the Spirit" More devotional than academic, this collection of ponderings on the Gospel endeavor to give the Holy Spirit his rightful place in Christian theology. "The Spirit has not been honored as He should have been," Shaw writes in his Preface, and dedicates his thoughtful essays to examining the Holy Spirit's role in an individual's faith, from the Spirit's role in offering repentance and extending temptation to how a believer can better pray to the Spirit and how one can be led by the Spirit to a place of greater holiness. First published in 1910, this is a beautiful work of piety that will inspire Christians to renew their relationship with an important figure of the faith. OF INTEREST TO: Christian scholars, readers of religious philosophy, seekers after wisdom GEORGE SHAW (b. 1870) was dean of the School of Theology at Central Holiness University. He is also the author of Acquainted with Grief (1906) and The Conflict of Jesus (1916).

Synopsis Five Models of Spiritual Direction in the Early Church by : George E. Demacopoulos

In late antiquity the rising number of ascetics who joined the priesthood faced a pastoral dilemma. Should they follow a traditional, demonstrably administrative, approach to pastoral care, emphasizing doctrinal instruction, the care of the poor, and the celebration of the sacraments? Or should they bring to the parish the ascetic models of spiritual direction, characterized by a more personal spiritual father/spiritual disciple relationship? Five Models of Spiritual Direction in the Early Church explores the struggles of five clerics (Athanasius, Gregory Nazianzen, Augustine of Hippo, John Cassian, and Pope Gregory I) to reconcile their ascetic idealism with the reality of pastoral responsibility. Through a close reading of Greek and Latin texts, George E. Demacopoulos explores each pastor's criteria for ordination, his supervision of subordinate clergy, and his methods of spiritual direction. He argues that the evolution in spiritual direction that occurred during this period reflected and informed broader developments in religious practices. Demacopoulos describes the way in which these authors shaped the medieval pastoral traditions of the East and the West. Each of the five struggled to balance the tension between his ascetic idealism and the realities of the lay church. Each offered distinct (and at times very different) solutions to that tension. The diversity among their models of spiritual direction demonstrates both the complexity of the problem and the variable nature of early Christianity. Scholars and students of late antiquity, the history of Christianity, and historical theology will find a great deal of interest in Five Models of Spiritual Direction in the Early Church. The book will also appeal to those who are actively engaged in Christian ministry.
