Silas Terry, known by his neighbors as Uncle Terry is the keeper of "The Cape" lighthouse, along the shore of Southport Island. On a stormy day, he looks out and sees something in the water. He then rescues a baby floating in a trunk and with his wife Mellissa they raise up Etelka "Telly" Peterson.
