Synopsis Trusted Partners by : Jordan D. Lewis
Trust is the glue that holds organizations together. More powerful than contracts or authority, trust enables partner companies -- or groups within a company -- to achieve results that exceed the sum of the parts. Without trust, alliances fail. In Trusted Partners, internationally recognized alliance expert Jordan Lewis draws on four decades of advising and managing alliances to show -- for the first time -- how to build and sustain trust between and within organizations. A comprehensive and multifaceted analysis of trust, Trusted Partners shows how to develop, manage, measure, improve, or repair this important dimension of every business relationship. "Trust must be constructed, one step at a time," Lewis maintains. He breaks significant new ground by describing each of these steps -- including how to assemble the elusive interpersonal, leadership, political, organizational, structural, and governance components of trust. Clear in its explanation of what trust entails, Trusted Partners uses dozens of stories and case examples, among them alliances between Canon and Hewlett-Packard, Ford and ABB, and Procter & Gamble and Wal-Mart, all of which achieved market-beating results. Lewis begins by establishing eight conditions for trust and shows how to determine if trust is possible. He then details: * How to build, manage, and repair trust * How to trust difficult customers * How to sell alliances to customers * How to trust a rival * How to build trust between internal groups * How to create a culture of trust * How to build trust in mergers and acquisitions Concluding Trusted Partners is a section entitled "Tools for Trust." This practical, easy-to-use reference guide covers in depth all the key aspects of trust -- from measuring trust and using alliance ethics to sharing know-how and benefits, working with attorneys, and choosing the best alliance structure. At a time when alliances have become a preferred competitive strategy for most companies, and with most alliances ending as failures, management at all levels cannot afford to ignore this powerful book.

Synopsis Radical Trust by : J. Healey
Radical Trust produces results "Healey brings to the forefront the importance of trust to business effectiveness in a new and fresh way. It takes the alignment of 'what we do,' 'what we say,' and 'who we are' to build trust with others. Business relationships founded on trust may be the single biggest employee retention tool available. Healey shows us how to build those kinds of relationships. Any leader would benefit from the insights he shares in Radical Trust." -Doug McMillon, President and CEO, Sam's Club "Healey is right on target. His book is a clear explanation of how instilling loyalty in a company becomes the differentiator in building an extraordinary culture. Having the chance to experience the loyalty factor from both sides at CiCi's Pizza, mentored by Joe Croce (featured in this book) as his employee and now in my current role as President, I know that the head of any organization will learn great lessons from Healey's work." -Craig Moore, President, CiCi's Pizza "Healey shows an organization how to set itself apart with service excellence, financial success, and employee loyalty. For progressive leaders who seek a comprehensive how-to, this book provides not only the framework, but also the proof that it works. Even after twenty years of experience, I learned things that will provide invaluable assistance for many more to come." -Loriann Putzier, Principal and COO, IntegraCare Corporation "Radical Trust is not a book of theory, but a hands-on, how-to book of practical ideas to help leaders establish radical trust that will change their relationships, their workplaces, and ultimately, their lives. Buy this book if you want to be a long-lived, successful, and well-loved leader." -Barbara A. Glanz, author of Handle with CARE: Motivating and Retaining Employees and coauthor of The Simple Truths of Service "Healey's model is an invaluable tool for leaders who want to harness the forward momentum that trust can bring to an organization. This book captures and describes the role that trust plays as an intrinsic value that people of all ages, genders, and cultures must have with their leaders." -Genien Carlson, former first Vice President, Mellon Bank "Radical Trust is entertaining reading. Synopsis The Role of Public-Private Partnerships in Health Systems Strengthening by : National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
Over the past several decades, the public and private sectors made significant investments in global health, leading to meaningful changes for many of the world's poor. These investments and the resulting progress are often concentrated in vertical health programs, such as child and maternal health, malaria, and HIV, where donors may have a strategic interest. Frequently, partnerships between donors and other stakeholders can coalesce on a specific topical area of expertise and interest. However, to sustain these successes and continue progress, there is a growing recognition of the need to strengthen health systems more broadly and build functional administrative and technical infrastructure that can support health services for all, improve the health of populations, increase the purchasing and earning power of consumers and workers, and advance global security. In June 2015, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine held a workshop on the role of public-private partnerships (PPPs) in health systems strengthening. Participants examined a range of incentives, innovations, and opportunities for relevant sectors and stakeholders in strengthening health systems through partnerships; to explore lessons learned from pervious and ongoing efforts with the goal of illuminating how to improve performance and outcomes going forward; and to discuss measuring the value and outcomes of investments and documenting success in partnerships focused on health systems strengthening. This report summarizes the presentations and discussions from the workshop.

Synopsis Global Governance Enterprises by : John J. Forrer
Global Governance Enterprises focuses on a specific multi-sector collaboration—the formation of an entity that carries out global governance—providing a detailed analysis of the context of their emergence, as well as how they are created, managed, and sustained. Forrer considers the growing challenges to successful global governance and the role of multi-sector collaborations in overcoming these challenges, arguing that such partnerships should be considered successful only when they meet specific conditions that ensure they are “doing well” and “doing good.” By establishing a coherent framework to define global governance enterprises across a wide span of sectors, the book develops a strong theoretical foundation for this type of partnership and provides the reader with an understanding of the practical, operational realities of organizing, financing, and sustaining global governance enterprises. It includes a full section of case studies, ranging from healthcare to environmental organizations, providing practical insight into this form of governance and its function. This book should be on the shelf of any professional or student interested in global governance, public–private partnerships, or public management.
