Synopsis Intelligent Systems for Engineering by : Ram D. Sriram

When men of knowledge impart this knowledge, I do not mean they will convince your reason. I mean they will awaken in you the faith that it is so. - Sri Krishna, Bhagavadgita BACKGROUND The use of computers has led to significant productivity increases in the en gineering industry. Most ofthe computer-aided engineering applications were . restricted to algorithmic computations, such as finite element programs and circuit analysis programs. However, a number ofproblems encountered in en gineering are not amenable to purely algorithmic solutions. These problems are often ill-structured; the term ill-structured problems is used here to de note problems that do not have a clearly defined algorithmic solution. An experienced engineer deals with these ill-structured problems using his/her judgment and experience. The knowledge-based systems (KBS) technology, which emerged out of research in artificial intelligence (AI), offers a method ologyto solve these ill-structuredengineering problems. The emergenceofthe KBS technology can be viewed as the knowledge revolution: other important events that led to increased productivity are the industrial revolution (17th century); the invention of the transistor and associated developments (first half of the 20th century); and the world-wide web (towards the end of the 20th century). Kurzweil, in a lecture at M. LT on December 3, 1987, linked the progress of automation to two industrial revolutions: the first industrial PREFACE xxxii revolution leveraged our physical capabilities, whereas the second industrial revolution - the knowledge revolution - is expected leverage oUr mental ca pabilities.

Synopsis Idiot Engineering by : Alfred Boediman

We all, especially software engineers, are on a journey of enhancing Artificial Intelligence (AI). Some of us have even dedicated our lives to it. Every part of the journey is astonishing, including the challenges we encounter. Our struggles sometimes lead to ineffective outcomes, and because of this, some people consider what we are doing, or what we have done, boring or even idiotic. Nevertheless, this journey would not be fulfilling without all the highs and lows. Whether or not we agree with it, AI is here and here to stay. What we need to do is embrace Artificial Intelligence, and we need to enjoy the journey! But how do we enjoy it? This book will help us do that by explaining the definition of AI, the potentials and the risks of AI, how to work on AI, how to utilize AI, and how to increase AI literacy through education!

Synopsis New Trends in Software Methodologies, Tools and Techniques by : H. Fujita

Software has become an essential enabler for science and the economy. Not only does it create new markets and the possibility of a more reliable, flexible and robust society, it also empowers our exploration of the world in ever increasing depth. However software often falls short of our expectations, with current methodologies, tools and techniques remaining insufficiently robust and reliable for constantly changing and evolving needs. This book presents papers from the 15th International Conference on New Trends in Intelligent Software Methodology Tools and Techniques (SoMeT 16), held in Larnaca, Cyprus, in September 2016. The SoMeT conference focuses on exploring the innovations, controversies and challenges facing the software engineering community, bringing together theory and experience to propose and evaluate solutions to software engineering problems with an emphasis on human-centric software methodologies, end-user development techniques, and emotional reasoning, for an optimally harmonized performance between the design tool and the user. The book is divided into six chapters covering the following areas: decision support systems; software methodologies and tools; requirement engineering; software for biomedicine and bioinformatics; software engineering models, and formal techniques for software representation; and intelligent software development and social networking. The book explores new trends and theories which illuminate the direction of developments in the field, and will be of interest to all in the software science community.

Synopsis New Trends on System Science and Engineering by : H. Fujita

System science and engineering is a field that covers a wide spectrum of modern technology. A system can be seen as a collection of entities and their interrelationships, which forms a whole greater than the sum of the entities and interacts with people, organisations, cultures and activities and the interrelationships among them. Systems composed of autonomous subsystems are not new, but the increased complexity of modern technology demands ever more reliable, intelligent, robust and adaptable systems to meet evolving needs. This book presents papers delivered at the International Conference on System Science and Engineering (ICSSE2015), held in Morioka, Japan, in July 2015. Some of the topics covered here include: systems modeling, tools and simulation; cloud robotics and computing systems; systems safety and security; smart grid, human systems and industrial organization and management; and novel applications of systems engineering and systems architecture. Capturing as it does the latest state-of-the-art and challenges in system sciences and its supporting technology, this book will be of interest to all those involved in developing and using system science methodology, tools and techniques
