Synopsis Tour of Mont Blanc and of Monte Rosa by : James D. Forbes

Excerpt from Tour of Mont Blanc and of Monte Rosa: Being a Personal Narrative, Abridged From the Author's "Travels in the Alps of Savoy," &C Two Editions of the "Travels in the Alps of Savoy" having been sold, my Publishers suggested the reprinting of the more popular and narrative portion of that work, in a generally accessible form, and at a moderate price. To this I readily agreed, and the present Volume is the result. The Map of the Mer de Glace of Chamouni and neighbouring district, reduced considerably from the former Editions, has received very important additions and corrections from my own more recent observations. I still look forward to publishing it on a larger 8;ale, and with more details. The Introductory Chapter on Glaciers and their Scenery is principally extracted (by the kind permission of the Proprietors), from an article in the Edinburgh Review by the present writer, published some years ago. Synopsis The Walkers' Haute Route by : Alexander Stewart

The Walkers' Haute Route is probably the single finest way of getting deep into the Alps. Trekking the Walkers' Haute Route, from Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn, from Chamonix to Zermatt, you'll traverse one of the finest stretches of the Pennine Alps - the mountain range in the western Alps that stretches between Valais in Switzerland and Piedmont and the Aosta Valley in Italy. A 13-day walk over 11 ridges in 113 miles (180kms), it isn't technically demanding and the rewards are immense.

This book is a definitive guide to the many thousands of possible routes, with a geographical span that ranges from the Maritime Alps of southern France to the Julians of Slovenia, from Italy's Gran Paradiso to the little-known Türnitzer Alps of eastern Austria, and from the ice-bound giants of the Bernese Oberland to the green rolling Kitzbüheler Alps and the bizarre towers of the Dolomites of South Tirol, showing the amazing diversity of this wonderful mountain chain. There are walks to suit every taste: gentle and undemanding, long and tough, and everything in between. Written by Britain's most respected authority on the Alps, this is a fully updated edition of this important book.
