Synopsis Tony Hunt's Second Sketchbook by : Anthony Hunt
Tony Hunt's Sketchbook illustrates the connection between brain and hand in conceiving structural concepts and details as possible solutions to structures in architecture. This new edition features 100 previously unpublished sketches. These sketches illustrate alternative structural concepts, ideas and details developed by Tony Hunt for over one hundred projects throughout his professional life. They relate directly to projects built and unbuilt in the field of structural engineering and were either produced at the time of relevant design meetings or as a response to a problem posed by an architect and are, therefore, a record of ideas proposed at the particular time. They are a source of design inspiration and an insight into the work of this well respected engineer.

Synopsis Tony Hunt's Sketchbook by : Anthony Hunt
'Tony Hunt's Structures Notebook' was a basic primer on structural engineering in a visual and non-mathematical form. 'Tony Hunt's Sketchbook' illustrates the connection between brain and hand in conceiving structural concepts and details as possible solutions to structures in architecture. Drawing is an important tool for initial communication of ideas. Design concepts originate in the mind and are transferred roughly and quickly to paper as freehand sketches. These sketches illustrate alternative structural concepts, ideas and details for discussions with the design team. The drawings in this sketchbook are a selection from notebooks produced by Tony Hunt over the last 30 or so years. They relate directly to projects built and unbuilt in the field of structural engineering. The author has worked extensively with most of he well-known architects in this country and some abroad. The sketches represent early thoughts and structural ideas on a wide range of projects, both large and small. They were either produced at the time of relevant design meetings or as a response to a problem posed by an architect and are, therefore, a record ideas proposed at the particular time. In most cases a range of structural alternatives are proposed. Sometimes the first idea was the one adopted. All drawings are freehand. The style and approach has varied over the years and has become 'freer' in later years, but all are by the author. World famous author - the first Engineer's sketchbook in the UK Tony Hunt is well known for his sketches Companion volume to the successful 'Tony Hunt's Structures Notebook'

Synopsis Building Structures Illustrated by : Francis D. K. Ching
Francis D.K.Ching brings his trademark presentation to the structural design studio with this major new work co-authored by Barry Onouye and Douglas Zuberbuhler. Taking a new approach to strucural design, Ching and his co-authors show how structural systems of a building -- as an integrated assembly of elements with pattern, proportions, and scale -- are related to the essential aspects of architectural design: formal and spatial composition, program fit, coordination with other building systems such as enclosure and mechanical systems, code compliance, etc. No other work by Francis D.K. Ching brings together so many aspects of architectural design as an integrated reference. Designers, builders, and students alike will gain a new understanding of structural principles and planning, without the need for mathematics. Using Ching's trademark presentation, Structural Patterns is illustrated throughout with line drawings to present the essential presence of structural systems in buildings, but also helps the reader make informed decisions for architectural design.

Synopsis The Design Student's Journey by : Bryan Lawson
Being a professional designer is one of the most intellectually rewarding careers. Learning to become a designer can be tremendous fun but it can also be frustrating and at times painful. What you have to do to become a designer is not often clearly laid out and can seem mysterious. Over the past 50 years or so we have discovered a great deal about how designers think. This book relies upon that knowledge but presents it in a way specifically intended to help the student and perhaps the teacher. Bryan Lawson’s classic book How Designers Think has been in print since 1980 and has gone through four editions to keep it up to date. This book can be seen as a companion volume for the design student.

Synopsis Structure and Architecture by : Angus J Macdonald
'Structure and Architecture' is an essential textbook for students and practitioners of architecture and structural engineering. MacDonald explains the basic principles of structure and describes the ranges of structure types in current use. Furthermore, the book links these topics directly with the activity of architectural design and criticism. An update of the first edition, 'Structure and Architecture 2ed' includes a revised opening chapter, and a new section that discusses prominent buildings constructed since the last edition was published in 1994. Angus MacDonald deals with structures holistically, relating detailed topics back to the whole structure and building. He aims to answer the questions: What are architectural structures? How does one define the difference between the structure of a building and all of the other components and elements of which it consists? What are the requirements of structures? What is involved in their design? An understanding of the concepts involved in answering these questions and an appreciation of how the structure of a building functions enhances the ability of an individual to appreciate its architectural quality. This book is unique in that it discusses the structural component of architectural design in the context of visual and stylistic issues.
