Synopsis Second Biennial Tire Recycling Conference by : DIANE Publishing Company
Approximately 38% of the 29 million tires that are scrapped each year in California are landfilled, stockpiled, or illegally dumped. The sheer volume of discarded tires presents a real dilemma -- or opportunity. This conference provided up-to-date information on recycling, market developments, & management opportunities for waste tires. Designed to promote alternatives to landfill disposal of waste tires, to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, & to solicit input for the California Integrated Waste Management Board's tire recycling program.

Synopsis Scrap Tires by : Robert H Snyder
Scrap Tires: Disposal and Reuse details the historical, technological, and economic issues related to the scrap tire industry, and the manner in which the scrap tire problem is addressed. The ultimate solution will be hastened by progress in the establishment of profitable commercial enterprises and markets to utilize scrap tires for their inherent intrinsic value. Scrap Tires provides advice on how scrap tires can be used for fuels, sealants, rubber mats, playground surfaces, equestrian arenas, wastewater treatment plant composts, golf courses, and more. Written from a business perspective, Scrap Tires focuses on the economics of tire recycling, providing valuable advice to individuals or companies. In addition to an exploration of markets, the book describes how tires are chopped, the machinery used in chopping tires, the grinding process, and the engineering properties of tire chips.

Synopsis Tyre Recycling by : Valerie Shulman
This is an expert overview on the topic of tyre recycling. It summarises current practices and the factors that have contributed to their growth and efficacy as viable, economically and environmentally sound methods of dealing with post-consumer tyres. The primary area of study of this report is the EU, but reports from the US have also been cited. Statistics from the EU markets, which illustrate changes in the industry since the inception of the European Tyre Recycling Association a decade ago are incorporated. Around 400 references with abstracts from recent global literature accompany this review, sourced from the Polymer Library, to facilitate further reading. A subject index and a company index are included.

Synopsis Uses of Recycled Rubber Tires in Highways by : Jon A. Epps
This synthesis on the use of recycled rubber tires in highways will be of interest to administrators and policy-makers; pavement, materials, geotechnical, environmental, and traffic operations engineers; and research engineers involved with highway design and construction issues. Information is provided on the uses of rubber tires in asphalt paving materials as well as other uses, such as on fills and embankments, for erosion control and on railroad grade crossings. Specifically, information is included which identifies the agencies using or implementing applications for recycled rubber tires and defines the design parameters, technical and construction limitations, performance, costs, benefits, environmental limitations, specifications, and availability. This synthesis of information defines the use of recycled rubber tires in highways and is based on a review of nearly 500 references and on information recorded from state highway agency responses to a 1991 survey of practice. Updates are included for as much of the state practice information possible through 1993. The use of scrap tires for highway applications is dynamic with regard to policy and technical issues. Therefore, the reader should keep in mind that the information presented reflects the best available data at a particular time. The synthesis also identifies current research in the topic area, critical research needs, and legislative issues that affect application and use of recycled rubber tires.
