Modern Methods in Analytical Acoustics considers topics fundamental to the understanding of noise, vibration and fluid mechanisms. The series of lectures on which this material is based began by some twenty five years ago and has been developed and expanded ever since. Acknowledged experts in the field have given this course many times in Europe and the USA. Although the scope of the course has widened considerably, the primary aim of teaching analytical techniques of acoustics alongside specific areas of wave motion and unsteady fluid mechanisms remains. The distinguished authors of this volume are drawn from Departments of Acoustics, Engineering of Applied Mathematics in Berlin, Cambridge and London. Their intention is to reach a wider audience of all those concerned with acoustic analysis than has been able to attend the course.

The coupling between acoustic waves and fluid flow motion is basically nonlinear, with the result that flow and sound modify themselves reciprocally with respect to generation and propagation properties. As a result this problem is investigated by many different communities, such as applied mathematics, acoustics and fluid mechanics. This book is the result of an international school which was held to discuss the foundation of sound--flow interactions, to share expertise and methodologies, and to promote cross-fertilization between the different disciplines involved. It consists essentially of a set of pedagogical lectures and is meant to serve not only as a compact source of reference for the experienced researcher but also as an advanced textbook for postgraduate students, and nonspecialists wishing to familiarize themselves in depth, at a research level, with this fascinating subject.

Thousands of years ago in ancient India, Yogis probed the atom with supernormal powers called siddhis. What they saw was subatomic particles as vortices of energy. That insight gave rise to maya the illusion of forms. Anticipating Einstein, Yogis realised everything is energy. There is no material substance underlying our world. They knew the bedrock of reality is mind and consciousness. That is endorsed today at the cutting edge of quantum physics. Applied to modern physics, the vortex shows how we are deluded by materialism. The particles and forces of nature are explained by the vortex of energy and physics becomes easy to understand for everybody. Predicting the most important scientific discovery of the late 20th century, The Vortex Theory could be the complete theory predicted by Stephen Hawking at the end of A Brief History of Time. The Vortex Theory provides a bridge between science and spirituality. At last we have a sound scientific theory to back belief in non material worlds. A new understanding of Life and Spirit could take us to fresh frontiers of discovery because it may be space is full of Life.

This book provides an introductory account of the theory of sound production and propagation and its interactions with solid structures. It includes general theory, diffraction and scattering theory, aerodynamic sound and fluid-structure-acoustic interactions, and a chapter of worked examples. It is intended for a one-semester course on acoustics at the advanced undergraduate or graduate level.

This textbook describes the fundamental OC physicalOCO aspects of fluid flows for beginners of fluid mechanics in physics, mathematics and engineering, from the point of view of modern physics. It also emphasizes the dynamical aspects of fluid motions rather than the static aspects, illustrating vortex motions, waves, geophysical flows, chaos and turbulence. Beginning with the fundamental concepts of the nature of flows and the properties of fluids, the book presents fundamental conservation equations of mass, momentum and energy, and the equations of motion for both inviscid and viscous fluids. In addition to the fundamentals, this book also covers water waves and sound waves, vortex motions, geophysical flows, nonlinear instability, chaos, and turbulence. Furthermore, it includes the chapters on superfluids and the gauge theory of fluid flows. The material in the book emerged from the lecture notes for an intensive course on Elementary Fluid Mechanics for both undergraduate and postgraduate students of theoretical physics given in 2003 and 2004 at the Nankai Institute of Mathematics (Tianjin) in China. Hence, each chapter may be presented separately as a single lecture."
