Synopsis The Temp Factor by : Cathy Reilly
Temporary employment is on the rise. In uncertain economic times, many businesses view employing temps as a cost-effective strategy to both maximize productivity and foster flexibility. Being noticed and ultimately hired by clients in this increasingly competitive market requires staffing services and temps to perform at new levels of excellence. Working with staffing service firms and temps for over 20 years, Cathy A. Reilly has learned a thing or two about the staffing industry and the bottom line: what temporary employment success looks like to a client. No matter where you are in this three-sided working arrangement, The Temp Factor: The Complete Guide to Temporary Employment for Staffing Services, Clients, and Temps is the most comprehensive and innovative manual on temporary employment you will find. This up-to-date book is written for anyone working within the temporary employment industry, whether you are just starting out or possess years of experience. It provides readers with basic information to build upon, fresh perspectives, and better solutions to meet today's business staffing challenges. Synopsis The Temp Factor for Job Seekers by : Cathy Reilly
If you are looking for work, consider temporary employment a valuable source of job opportunities. As a temp, you can increase job skills and work experience, expand business networks, strengthen your resume, and avoid gaps in employment, all while being paid. Quite often, temp work can be a "job audition" because it puts temps in front of hiring managers and decision makers for days, weeks, or even months at a time while on job assignments. The Temp Factor for Job Seekers: The Job Seeker's Guide to Temporary Employment presents how this job search strategy may get you back to work faster. Becoming a temp guarantees what a resume cannot: face time inside the doors of potential employers. With over 20 years of experience working with staffing service firms and temps, Cathy A. Reilly teaches you about the advantages, challenges, pay, and benefits of being a temp. She explains what clients and staffing services look for in effective temps, how to find and apply to a high quality staffing service, and how to distinguish yourself from the crowd. Corporate culture, job performance issues, temp assessment tools, interview questions (and answers that have impact), real-world insights and "must knows" are included in this comprehensive manual.

Synopsis The Effect of Temperature and other Factors on Plastics and Elastomers by : Laurence W. McKeen
This reference guide brings together a wide range of critical data on the effect of temperature on plastics and elastomers, enabling engineers to make optimal material choices and design decisions. The effects of humidity level and strain rate on mechanical and electrical properties are also covered. The data are supported by explanations of how to make use of the data in real world engineering contexts.High (and low) temperatures can have a significant impact on plastics processing and applications, particularly in industries such as automotive, aerospace, oil and gas, packaging, and medical devices, where metals are increasingly being replaced by plastics. Additional plastics have also been included for polyesters, polyamides and others where available, including polyolefins, elastomers and fluoropolymers. Entirely new sections on biodegradable polymers and thermosets have been added to the book. The level of data included – along with the large number of graphs and tables for easy comparison – saves readers the need to contact suppliers, and the selection guide has been fully updated, giving assistance on the questions which engineers should be asking when specifying materials for any given application. - Trustworthy, current thermal data and best practice guidance for engineers and materials scientists in the plastics industry - More than 1,000 graphs and tables allow for easy comparison between plastics - Entirely new sections added on biopolymers and thermosets

Synopsis Turbulent Boundary-layer Temperature Recovery Factors in Two-dimensional Supersonic Flow by : Maurice Tucker
An analytical method is presented for obtaining turbulent temperature recovery factors for a thermally insulated surface in supersonic flow. The method is an extension of Squire's analysis for incompressible flow. The boundary layer velocity profile is represented by a power law and a similarity is postulated for squared-velocity the static-temperature-difference profiles.

Synopsis Experimental Study of Factors Controlling the Effectiveness of High-temperature Protective Coatings for Tungsten by : Jack Brett
The restrictions imposed by the processes of diffusion, evaporation, and coating substrate reactions on the choice of potential protective coating materials for tungsten were studied analytically and experimentally. The diffusive restriction is the most limiting and eliminates many refractory oxides with otherwise satisfactory attributes. The diffusive properties of rare earth sesquioxides and complex refractory oxides were explored by means of oxidation experiments and a layer growth experiment respectively. Mass spectrometric studies of the vaporization of refractory complex oxides were carried out to determine the applicability of the Wagner-Hauffe method of predicting vaporization rates. Provided certain thermodynamic approximations are valid and the vapor species over the complex oxide are the same as those over the pure component oxides, the predictions yield order of magnitude accuracy. A survey and exploration of reactions of possible coating materials with tungsten was performed emphasizing promising materials from the diffusion studies. (Author).

Synopsis Effect of Temperature and other Factors on Plastics and Elastomers by : Laurence W. McKeen
This book is an update to the first edition compiled and published in 1990 by William Woishnis. A lot has changed in the field since 1990 and a lot has not changed. There are new plastic materials. There has been a huge turnover in ownership of plastics producing companies. There has been a lot of consolidation, which of course means discontinued products. Thus, this update is much more extensive than the usual "next edition."It has been reorganized from a chemistry point of view. Plastics of similar polymer types are grouped into nine chapters. Each of these chapters includes an introduction with a brief explanation of the chemistry of the polymers used in the plastics. An extensive first chapter has been added as an introduction that summarizes the chemistry of making polymers, the formulation of plastics, testing and test methods, and plastic selection. Most plastic products and parts are expected to be used in environments other than room temperature and standard humidity conditions. Chapters 2-10 are a databank that serves as an evaluation of plastics as they are exposed to varying operating conditions at different temperatures, humidity, and other factors. Over 900 graphs for more than 45 generic families of plastics are contained in these chapters.Chapter 11 contains extensive mechanical and electrical data in tabular form. The tables contain data on several thousand plastics. Similarly, Chapter 12 contains thermal data on several thousand plastics. Data from the first edition have only been removed if those products were discontinued, and many products were. Product names and manufacturers have been updated. - Detailed introductions of plastics properties, testing procedures, and principles of plastics design - The only "databook" available on the effects of temperature and humidity conditions on plastics and elastomers - More than 1,000 graphs and tables allow for easy comparison between products - Covers more than 70 types of plastics, and summarizes the chemistry of each type

Synopsis Experimental Investigation of Temperature Recovery Factors on Bodies of Revolution at Supersonic Speeds by : William R. Wimbrow
Local temperature recovery factors have been measured on two bodies of revolution at Mach numbers of 2.0 and are shown to be independent of Mach number, Reynolds number, or body shape. The measured recovery factor is well represented by the square root of Prandtl number for laminar boundary layers and by the cube root of Prandtl number for turbulent boundary layers, as predicted by theory.
