The captions reflect the author’s recollections and experiences from the platform end to more hands on railway adventures. From a base in Edinburgh we travel to locations across the country from Wick to Carlisle, from the scenic majesty of the West Highlands to the industrial Central Belt. There we will see; diesels and electrics in a selection of liveries on freight and passenger workings, steam on the main line and visit sheds, stations and preserved lines. This includes some more unusual places such as Cameron Toll, Prestongrange and The Isle of Mull and buildings that have been demolished such as Mallaig steam shed, Grangemouth shed and Millerhill diesel depot. This book will provide; reference material, nostalgia for some enthusiasts, a look back in time for others and for modelers, inspiration for their projects. So come and enjoy the journey.

Synopsis Signs of Murder by : David Wilson
From the UK's leading criminologist comes the true story of Margaret McLaughlin, and the man he believes was fitted up for her murder 'Enthralling ... will leave true crime readers with more to ponder than they bargained for' - The Herald Before David Wilson became the UK's pre-eminent criminologist, he was just a young boy growing up in the Scottish town of Carluke. When he was a child, the brutal murder of a young woman rocked this small community, but very quickly a man was arrested for the crime, convicted and put behind bars. For most, life slowly carried on - case closed. But there were whispers in the town that the wrong man was imprisoned. Over the years, these whispers grew louder, to the point that any time David would visit, he'd be asked in hushed tones, 'What are you going to do about the Carluke Case?' Carluke believed the real killer had evaded justice. A murderer was still on the loose. Forty years later, it's time for David to return home, and find out the truth.

Synopsis Scotland's Railways by : Keith Verden Anderson
W. J. V. Anderson is undoubtedly one of the most widely respected railway photographers whose images are almost instantly recognisable from their unsurpassed technical accomplishment and the skill of their composition. The first volume, illustrated in both mono and colour, concentrated upon Anderson's steam photography, whilst the second volume, illustrated largely in colour, featured diesel traction. This new book, which is predominantly illustrated in colour throughout, draws upon the large number of unpublished images that did not feature in the original book, and portrays the Scottish Region during the years from 1960 through to around 1980. At the start of the period, Scottish Region was still predominantly steam operated with countless classes of locomotive that predated the Grouping of 1923. By the late 1970s, Scottish Region, as elsewhere, was dominated by Rail Blue, but there was still a sufficient variety of locomotive type to draw enthusiasts to the country.

Synopsis After Virtue by : Alasdair MacIntyre
Highly controversial when it was first published in 1981, Alasdair MacIntyre's After Virtue has since established itself as a landmark work in contemporary moral philosophy. In this book, MacIntyre sought to address a crisis in moral language that he traced back to a European Enlightenment that had made the formulation of moral principles increasingly difficult. In the search for a way out of this impasse, MacIntyre returns to an earlier strand of ethical thinking, that of Aristotle, who emphasised the importance of 'virtue' to the ethical life. More than thirty years after its original publication, After Virtue remains a work that is impossible to ignore for anyone interested in our understanding of ethics and morality today.

The book includes six chapters that cover Virginia history from initial settlement through the 20th century plus one that deals with the important role of underwater archaeology. Written by prominent archaeologists with research experience in their respective topic areas, the chapters consider important issues of Virginia history and consider how the discipline of historic archaeology has addressed them and needs to address them . Changes in research strategy over time are discussed , and recommendations are made concerning the need to recognize the diverse and often differing roles and impacts that characterized the different regions of Virginia over the course of its historic past. Significant issues in Virginia history needing greater study are identified.
