The Earth Walkers is a story of the relationship of horses, humans, and planet earth. It is a simple story that over time we, as humans, have complicated. Once, all three lived in harmony, but humans viewed this as primitive, savage, or wild. And so we began to make our existence together more civilized. In our interference, we began to lose respect for our planet and all that lived upon it, including ourselves. One of the three, though, remained steadfast throughout the story. Horses, except in their physical appearance, have neither changed nor tried to change anything, just being themselves, constantly at our sides. Tracing the story of the relationship from the beginning of time, the unique bond between humans and horses is explored through different civilizations and cultures up to present day. It tracks the journey of the two species and the effect they had on earth as they walked around it. It also tells the story of how—when in times of disruption, chaos, and imbalance—earth has spoken to us, giving us signs; and horses have always been there, guiding us to a path back home. It is a path to a home on earth where all can live in harmony and at peace—a path that we will hopefully choose to walk together once again.

Published originally in 1935, this is an account of twenty two years spent, off and on, among the Bedouins of Arabia, migrating, hunting, raiding, starving, feasting and making wonderful desert friendships. The author writes the book for 'the Lord of his fathers,' the king of Arabia 'Abdel-' Aziz ibn Sa'ud el Wahhab and his governors and chiefs in Neijd, Hasa, Jauf, and Kaf and Amir Nuri Sha'lan, his family and tribe of the Ruala. An intimate account of the tradition and ancestors of the Bedouin.

Mari Sandoz came out of the Sandhills of Nebraska to write at least three enduring books: Old Jules, Cheyenne Autumn, and Crazy Horse, the Strange Man of the Oglalas. She was a tireless researcher, a true storyteller, an artist passionately dedicated to a place little known and a people largely misunderstood. Blasted by some critics, revered by others for her vivid detail and depth of feeling, Sandoz has achieved a secure place in American literature. Her letters, edited by Helen Winter Stauffer, reveal extraordinary courage and zest for life. Included here are letters written by Sandoz over nearly forty years?from 1928, the year of her father's death and a critical one for her creative development, to 1966, the year of her own death. They allow memorable flimpses of the professional and private person: her struggles to learn her craft in spite of an unsupportive family and hard-won formal education, her experiences in gathering material, her relationships with editors and publishers, her work with fledgling writers, and her commitment to art and to various social concerns.

"As old as time itself and as fleet as its flying moments," the Arabian horse has remained practically unchanged throughout the more than 3,500 years of the history of the breed.

BLACK TENTS OF ARABIA, by Carl Raswan, has been praised as a love story, as an adventure story, as a travel book, and as an insider's vision of a much-misunderstood people. It is all of those things, and if Raswan had been given a free hand it would also have been a definitive study of the Arabian Horse; but the editors of Little, Brown, and Company were not horsemen, and in 1934 Raswan was not yet famous enough to override them. They made him condense the story of his first year in Arabia to a single chapter, and rearrange the other material to keep the love-story up front. "I suppose it made a better book," Raswan commented wistfully, "though they made me leave out enough for several more." It made a book that has been loved in all its incarnations for sixty-seven years; but horse-lovers have always wished there were more about horses in it, and Mrs. Carl Raswan has expanded this edition to include a selection of her husband's early articles.
