Synopsis The Practice and Applied Therapeutics of Osteopathy by : Charles Hazzard
The Practice and Applied Therapeutics of Osteopathy By Charles Hazzard Ph.D. Preface The matter contained in this volume was delivered as a course of lectures. In order that the classes might have lectures in printed form as the work progressed, they were printed and distributed in weekly lots, but in such form that at the end of the course they could be bound and preserved. The work being printed piecemeal in this way explains why there occur various blank pages through the book. They will, however, be found useful for annotations. As the lectures were delivered in conjunction with daily quizzes in the symptomatology of the diseases considered, the standard texts upon Practice of Medicine being used, it was manifestly desirable to omit from this work all the matter so easily accessible in those writings. This plan left the author free to devote these pages entirely to osteopathic considerations, intending that this work should be used in conjunction with any standard text of medical practice. No special attempt has been made to follow the usual classification of diseases closely, for various reasons. Likewise, no effort has been made to cover every disease known. It is hoped, however, that the effort to represent the osteopathic view of disease and the osteopathic mode of treatment, even upon this limited scale, may not have been in vain. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Windham Press is committed to bringing the lost cultural heritage of ages past into the 21st century through high-quality reproductions of original, classic printed works at affordable prices. This book has been carefully crafted to utilize the original images of antique books rather than error-prone OCR text. This also preserves the work of the original typesetters of these classics, unknown craftsmen who laid out the text, often by hand, of each and every page you will read. Their subtle art involving judgment and interaction with the text is in many ways superior and more human than the mechanical methods utilized today, and gave each book a unique, hand-crafted feel in its text that connected the reader organically to the art of bindery and book-making. We think these benefits are worth the occasional imperfection resulting from the age of these books at the time of scanning, and their vintage feel provides a connection to the past that goes beyond the mere words of the text.

Synopsis The Practice and Applied Therapeutics of Osteopathy by : Charles Hazzard
Excerpt from The Practice and Applied Therapeutics of Osteopathy: Revised Since the publication of the second edition of this work, the growth and progress of Osteopathy have been marked, and it has been the aim of the author to have these pages reflect those virile characteristics of the Science. He has made an earnest endeavor to add to his previous work as much as possible that would be of value to the profession. The work has been rewritten in many parts, and much new matter has been added throughout, considerably enlarging the volume. The same considerations that before led to the omission from these pages of the facts of pathology, symptomatology, etc., which the student finds useful in his studies, but which are so available from other sources, were still deemed sufficient. But the continued demand for a compact work upon this subject, of moderate price, and devoted exclusively to osteopathic considera tions seems to warrant the bringing out of this further edition. Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

Synopsis Textbook Osteopathic Medicine by : Johannes Mayer
For the first time, a 60-person team of internationally renowned editors and authors presents a textbook of osteopathic medicine that is oriented towards clinical symptoms. Introductory chapters on history, philosophy and the spread of osteopathy are followed by a presentation of its scientific basis that clearly demonstrates how firmly osteopathy is rooted in science. Further chapters cover osteopathic research, diagnosis and principles of treatment. Two parts on therapeutic strategies in osteopathic practice form the core of this book. The first is divided into regions of the body, the second into clinical specialties that offer opportunities for osteopathic treatment. In both clinical parts, osteopathic therapy is presented in the entirety in which it is actually practiced - without the common but artificial separation of parietal, visceral and craniosacral treatment. First, the clinical symptom is explained from a medical perspective, then the osteopathic perspective and and treatment is presented. Thus, the title is not only suitable for conveying a profound understanding of osteopaths in training, be they doctors or non-medical practitioners, but also as a clinical reference of osteopathic medicine for everyday treatment.
