Despite the present-day democratic government's commitment to human rights, socio-cultural and religious clashes still pose a threat to Nigeria. As a panacea a split according to ethnic and religious boundaries has been suggested; on the other hand upholding the different strands might spell greater benefits for the country's development. The basic assumption of both views is that ethnic and religious pluralism have led to conflicts, but that they are fuelled by politics, inequitable distribution of economic goods and the negative forces of globalization. In this project, examining these conflicts and the efforts made to resolve them, particular attention will be paid to dialogue and reconciliation. The key practice suggested is convivence: a symbiosis of interactive and interpenetrative approaches, based on intercultural and interreligious hermeneutical perspectives.

With the prevailing violent conflict situation of our world, perpetuated sometimes even in the name of religion, humanity today faces extinction. To reverse this ugly trend, humanity has no choice than to build a society where every tribe and tongue can coexist in peace. This work analyzed the violent conflicts from anthropological, behavioral, politico-philosophical, and theological perspectives, and makes a demand on humanity to save herself through proper education and dialogue with all men and religions.

In this study, we will look at the words convivencia in Spanish (and Catalan), convivance in French (convivencia in Occitan) and "convivence" in English, as well as the concept underlying this term. We will adopt a different approach for each language concerned, as the word has its own specific connotations and evolution in each, thereby demanding a differentiated research and questioning strategy. In this small-scale research project, conducted online, we will also suggest areas of further research and consideration. This is a research topic that certainly merits further development, and the conclusions drawn herein are purely indicative in nature.

At the start of Nigeria’s Fourth Republic on 29 May 1999, there was great optimism as to the emergence of a new democratic future representing a significant break from the political undulations of the past. Two decades and four presidential epochs later, there is a prevalent question as to how well Nigeria has fared in governance and human rights post-1999. Communication in Africa is growing at an unprecedented pace. African governments are investing close to $100bn dollars annually for new infrastructure in communication. There are presently over 500 million mobile phones in Africa. Nigeria remains the economic hub of Africa. With an approximately 50% Christian population, this explosion poses opportunities and challenges for evangelisation in Nigeria.
