Synopsis The Mysteries of Paris (Vol. 1-6) by : Eugène Sue
The Mysteries of Paris tells of the fight between good and evil set on the streets of French capital in the mid 19th century. The hero of the novel is the enigmatic and distinguished Rodolphe, who is really the Grand Duke of Gerolstein, but is disguised as a Parisian worker. Rodolphe can speak in argot, is extremely strong and a good fighter. Yet he also shows great compassion for the lower classes, good judgment, and a brilliant mind. He can navigate all layers of society in order to understand their problems, and to understand how the different social classes are linked. Rodolphe is accompanied by his friends Sir Walter Murph, an Englishman, and David, a gifted black doctor, formerly a slave. The antagonist and the representative of evil is Ferand, a lawyer and delegate of a new commercial order.

Synopsis Mysteries of Paris by : Marion Mainwaring
It has long been known that Edith Wharton had an intense love affair around 1908. For years readers assumed that it was with Walter Berry, her friend since youth, until it was revealed that her lover was not Berry, but rather Morton Fullerton, an American living in Paris. Until now little has been known of Morton Fullerton except that he was a Harvard graduate, a Paris correspondent for the Times of London, and a friend of Henry James. In this unusual detective story, Marion Mainwaring unfolds for her readers her pursuit of Fullerton and of the people, both high and low, who were part of his checkered life in France, America, and England. Her far-flung investigations take her to slums and chateaux, to talks with counts and viscounts, concierges, engineers, sculptors, diplomats, and, in the end, to the astonishing figure of Morton Fullerton. Talented, intelligent, sophisticated, and ambitious, Fullerton also proved to be egotistical and unscrupulous, a cad and a con man, but his overwhelming personal charm attracted friends and lovers of both sexes. Mysteries of Paris uncovers, one by one, the details of his career as a writer and a spy, his love affairs with Wharton and other women, his close friendship with James, and his relations with Oscar Wilde, George Santayana, Paul Verlaine, Theodore Roosevelt, and many others.

Synopsis Deadly Row to Hoe by : Cricket McRae
Harvest time in Cadyville, Washington, finds Sophie Mae Ambrose volunteering at the local organic farm—and trying to make a little sprout of her own with Barr, her police detective husband. But a dead body discovered in the farm's compost heap is enough to cast dark clouds over Sophie Mae's sunny mood. When Barr's boss lets her know they need help identifying the body, a reluctant Sophie Mae presses her network of friends and neighbors into action. Turning up the heat on a whole crop of suspects seems to be producing results...until a farmhand is found with a shovel-shaped bump on his head. If Sophie Mae and Barr don't root out the killer soon, it's only a matter of time before another victim is squashed. Praise: "The pacing and setting are refreshing, and the craft details are well blended. Another strong volume in a series that will appeal to fans of farmer's market series from Paige Shelton and B. B. Haywood."—Booklist "McRae's lighthearted mystery is quirky, well plotted and fun."—RT Book Reviews "McRae, whose home-crafting mysteries always offer tips in mastering some new area of domestic expertise, spices her juicy mystery with some intriguing veggie lore."—Kirkus Reviews
