Synopsis Contemporary History of Cantonese Migrants in Yokohama Chinatown by : Yee Lam Elim Wong
This book vividly portrays the past, current, and future development of Yokohama Chinatown through the context of its Cantonese residents, grounded through a family history. It is useful for both academic and non- academic readers who are interested in migration history, transformation of urban spaces, anthropological perspectives of integration of immigrants, diasporic studies and overseas Chinese studies. It is informative when considering the role of immigrant communities in the world today in the context of globalization stimulating cross-border movements and anti-globalization forces that act as push and pull factors for migration. It is also a study of harmonious integration of the overseas Chinese community in Yokohama and its ability to retain its own cultural traits, rights, rituals, traditions and dialect language in one of the most homogenous countries in the world. This increases the attractiveness of Yokohama City in terms of ethnic diversity, cosmopolitan multiculturalism and urban space renewal.

Synopsis Dance in US Popular Culture by : Jennifer Atkins
This innovative textbook applies basic dance history and theory to contemporary popular culture examples in order to examine our own ways of moving in—and through—culture. By drawing on material relevant to students, Dance in US Popular Culture successfully introduces students to critical thinking around the most personal of terrain: our bodies and our identities. The book asks readers to think about: what embodied knowledge we carry with us and how we can understand history and society through that lens what stereotypes and accompanying expectations are embedded in performance, related to gender and/or race, for instance how such expectations are reinforced, negotiated, challenged, embraced, or rescripted by performers and audiences how readers articulate their own sense of complex identity within the constantly shifting landscape of popular culture, how this shapes an active sense of their everyday lives, and how this can act as a springboard towards dismantling systems of oppression Through readings, questions, movement analyses, and assignment prompts that take students from computer to nightclub and beyond, Dance in US Popular Culture readers develop their own cultural sense of dance and the moving body’s sociopolitical importance while also determining how dance is fundamentally applicable to their own identity. This is the ideal textbook for high school and undergraduate students of dance and dance studies in BA and BfA courses, as well as those studying popular culture from interdisciplinary perspectives including cultural studies, media studies, communication studies, theater and performance studies. Synopsis Indonesia-Taiwan Relations by : Prof. Dr. Tirta Nugraha Mursitama, Ph.D.
[This book is written in Dual Language: English & Mandarin] This book is a collection of researches from the Taiwan Studies Project research team of Bina Nusantara University. This book consists of three parts. First, the relationship between Indonesia and Taiwan in the context of the New Southbound Policy. This part describes the collaboration scheme of the Taiwanese government, industry and high school in Indonesia to improve human resource competencies by providing scholarships for economically disadvantaged Indonesian students to study in Taiwan. It also illustrates the obstacles faced in implementing the New Southbound Policy in Indonesia due to the language and culture constraints of Taiwan and Indonesia. Second part discusses about cross culture. Through cultural acculturation research, it is hoped that Indonesia and Taiwan will better acknowledge each other's culture and realize the similarities in culture, especially in the Potehi puppet show, which is still performed in Taiwan today by using Hokkien. Whereas, the Potehi puppet show in Indonesia already uses Indonesian regional languages besides Hokkien. Also, the influence of Chinese culture on Betawi Bridal Dress. This closeness in history and culture is expected to be the glue of Taiwan and Indonesia relations. Last, the third part illustrates the BINUS University lecturers' visitation to Taiwan. They visit several places and Indonesian young people who obtained a scholarship from university in Taiwan. From this visitation, readers will better understand the good intentions of the Taiwanese government to help the development of the Indonesian economy by providing opportunities for young Indonesians to become educated and trained personnel when they graduate from higher institutions.
