The book, The Legacy of Southist Syrian Christians: Contributions of Knanaya Community to Kerala in a Historical Perspective, was written to educate the youth and the readers about the Knanaya Catholic community and what great contributions this minority community has made for the socioeconomic advancement of Kerala, a southern state in the Indian subcontinent. The book gives a short historical description of how the community migrated from the Middle East to Kerala in the fourth century and how the community thrived for seventeen centuries in India. The Southist Syrian Christians survived many attacks on their mere existence itself, yet the community successfully kept their identity and is still flourishing all over the world now.

Excerpt from The Syrian Christians of Malabar, Otherwise Called the Christians of S. Thomas The preparation of the following Treatise is due, I believe, to a hope indulged by its Author that some interest in behalf of his suffering countrymen had been awakened in this country by a work of mine published in 1864, entitled, "The Christians of S. Thomas and their Liturgies." It was sent to me more than two years ago for publication, but as no funds were sent to meet the expense, and none could be expected so far as the Author was concerned, I was unable to put it at once into the printer's hands. However, as I had promised my native friend to do what I could, and as I had led him, I fear somewhat too rashly, to expect that I should be successful in getting his work published, I have determined to issue it without further delay. The kind reception accorded to the little work already alluded to, induces me to hope that this Treatise will meet with at least equal favour. Those who take an interest in the affairs of Oriental Churches generally will find here a sketch of the First Four General Councils (together with the Latrocinium) made from the stand-point of an Eastern Jacobite, with no inconsiderable amount of information as to the ecclesiastical observances and tenets of the Jacobites. Those again, who, whether they enter deeply or not into subjects such as the foregoing, are possessed by an earnest missionary spirit, will be able to judge how far the object of their hearts would be likely to be promoted by any steps they may have thought practicable in conjunction with the Christians of S. Thomas. And lastly, to those who yearn, above all things else, for the advancement of the Visible Reunion of Christendom, as the fulfilment of our dear Lords most earnest prayer, and as essential to the completeness of the Church, and to her ultimate victory over evil, these pages will afford matter for deep reflection, and possibly a basis for active exertion also.
