Synopsis The Learning Edge by : Alan Bain
After billions of dollars, thousands of studies, and immeasurable effort by educators at all levels, why is the performance of students and teachers so unaffected by technology? Moreover, what should be done to extract genuine benefit from the information and communication technology (ICT) revolution? In this groundbreaking book, technology and education experts Alan Bain and Mark Weston provide research-based evidence for how the widespread application of ICT can provide powerful learning opportunities that lead to lasting gains and achievement. They show how the integrated use of technology at all levels of the educational system can greatly expand collaborative learning opportunities by giving all educational stakeholders powerful problem-solving tools and solutions. The approaches presented here are grounded in over twenty years of experience working with classroom teachers, school leaders, association members, and policymakers.

Synopsis Learn or Die by : Edward D. Hess
To compete with today's increasing globalization and rapidly evolving technologies, individuals and organizations must take their ability to learn—the foundation for continuous improvement, operational excellence, and innovation—to a much higher level. In Learn or Die, Edward D. Hess combines recent advances in neuroscience, psychology, behavioral economics, and education with key research on high-performance businesses to create an actionable blueprint for becoming a leading-edge learning organization. Learn or Die examines the process of learning from an individual and an organizational standpoint. From an individual perspective, the book discusses the cognitive, emotional, motivational, attitudinal, and behavioral factors that promote better learning. Organizationally, Learn or Die focuses on the kinds of structures, culture, leadership, employee learning behaviors, and human resource policies that are necessary to create an environment that enables critical and innovative thinking, learning conversations, and collaboration. The volume also provides strategies to mitigate the reality that humans can be reflexive, lazy thinkers who seek confirmation of what they believe to be true and affirmation of their self-image. Exemplar learning organizations discussed include the secretive Bridgewater Associates, LP; Intuit, Inc.; United Parcel Service (UPS); W. L. Gore & Associates; and IDEO.

Synopsis Machine Learning for Edge Computing by : Amitoj Singh
This book divides edge intelligence into AI for edge (intelligence-enabled edge computing) and AI on edge (artificial intelligence on edge). It focuses on providing optimal solutions to the key concerns in edge computing through effective AI technologies, and it discusses how to build AI models, i.e., model training and inference, on edge. This book provides insights into this new inter-disciplinary field of edge computing from a broader vision and perspective. The authors discuss machine learning algorithms for edge computing as well as the future needs and potential of the technology. The authors also explain the core concepts, frameworks, patterns, and research roadmap, which offer the necessary background for potential future research programs in edge intelligence. The target audience of this book includes academics, research scholars, industrial experts, scientists, and postgraduate students who are working in the field of Internet of Things (IoT) or edge computing and would like to add machine learning to enhance the capabilities of their work. This book explores the following topics: Edge computing, hardware for edge computing AI, and edge virtualization techniques Edge intelligence and deep learning applications, training, and optimization Machine learning algorithms used for edge computing Reviews AI on IoT Discusses future edge computing needs Amitoj Singh is an Associate Professor at the School of Sciences of Emerging Technologies, Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Punjab, India. Synopsis The Digital Edge by : S. Craig Watkins
How black and Latino youth learn, create, and collaborate online The Digital Edge examines how the digital and social-media lives of low-income youth, especially youth of color, have evolved amidst rapid social and technological change. While notions of the digital divide between the “technology rich” and the “technology poor” have largely focused on access to new media technologies, the contours of the digital divide have grown increasingly complex. Analyzing data from a year‐long ethnographic study at Freeway High School, the authors investigate how the digital media ecologies and practices of black and Latino youth have adapted as a result of the wider diffusion of the internet all around us--in homes, at school, and in the palm of our hands. Their eager adoption of different technologies forge new possibilities for learning and creating that recognize the collective power of youth: peer networks, inventive uses of technology, and impassioned interests that are remaking the digital world. Relying on nearly three hundred in-depth interviews with students, teachers, and parents, and hundreds of hours of observation in technology classes and after school programs, The Digital Edge carefully documents some of the emergent challenges for creating a more equitable digital and educational future. Focusing on the complex interactions between race, class, gender, geography and social inequality, the book explores the educational perils and possibilities of the expansion of digital media into the lives and learning environments of low-income youth. Ultimately, the book addresses how schools can support the ability of students to develop the social, technological, and educational skills required to navigate twenty-first century life.
