Synopsis The Kingdom of Heaven (Classic Reprint) by : H. Maldwyn Hughes

Excerpt from The Kingdom of Heaven The aim of this volume is practical. Every preacher and teacher has to face the question - What is the Gospel? Jesus began His ministry by proclaiming the advent of the Kingdom of Heaven. It is, therefore, a matter of paramount importance to ascertain the significance of the Kingdom in His teaching. This has been one of the main subjects of theological inquiry during recent years. There are still wide divergencies of interpretation, but there is a growing recognition that neither the 'evolutionary' nor the 'catastrophic' elements in our Lord's teaching can be explained away, if justice is done to the records. I have striven, in these pages, to present both aspects impartially, and to show how they are related to one another. The subject is approached in the light of the critical study of the Gospels, but with a desire to avoid the subjectivity which is so often the bane of the critical method. A theme on which so much has been written offers little scope for originality. I venture, however, to cherish the hope that the presentation of the material may help some of those who are engaged in the practical work of preaching and teaching to a better understanding of the central message of our Lord's ministry. I have to express my obligations to my friend, Rev. Sydney Cave, D.D., Principal of Cheshunt College, who has read most of the manuscript and has made valuable suggestions, and to my wife, who has assisted in reading the proofs and in preparing the index. Synopsis The Kingdom of Heaven by :

Excerpt from The Kingdom of Heaven: A Revelation N sending forth his disciples to proclaim the good tidings that the kingdom of heaven is at hand, anticipating the probable rejection of their testimony, Jesus said, Nevertheless be ye sure of this, the Kingdom of God is come nigh. Long before his disciples were able to discern the true spiritual significance of that kingdom, to them it was 'given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, for they were witnesses of their outward manifestation long before they were spiritually pre pared to understand, or enter into, that state of blessedness through purity of heart and faith in God. No argument accompanied their announcement of the glad tidings, they simply proclaimed the good news; the attestation of its truth was independent of their own minds. Synopsis What Is the Kingdom of Heaven? (Classic Reprint) by : A. Clutton Brock

Excerpt from What Is the Kingdom of Heaven? I hope that in this book I may not seen to express a greater hostility to Christian orthodoxy than I feel. As I owe all that I most firmly believe to that orthodoxy, I should be ungrateful if I spoke of it with enmity or contempt. But orthodoxy can be living only if it is ready to confess that it may have made mistakes even on the most vital points. The mistake which I believe it has made, and which I try to point out in this book, is really one of emphasis. It would be easy to quote passages from Christian writers, all through the ages, against my contention that Christ's doctrine of the Kingdom of Heaven has been ignored. But these passages would not prove that any church has laid that emphasis on the doctrine which Christ Himself laid on it, or that there has been a sustained effort to understand the doctrine or to state it clearly and fully. The doctrine is not the centre of Christian thought and teaching; and in this book I contend that it ought to be. Synopsis The Kingdom of Heaven by : Arthur W. Pink

Excerpt from The Kingdom of Heaven: Its Significance and Scope Qwere to be followed by a fifth, as we read in verse xliv: And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever. This Kingdom is the Messianic Kingdom which shall be set up on the earth at the return of God's Son to it. Proof of our last assertion is furnished by Dan. Vii:13, 14, I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of Man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the ancient of days, and they brought Him near before Him. And there was given Him dominion, and glory, and a Kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages, should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and Hi; Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. It was to this same Kingdom that the angel referred when he said to Mary, And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, shalt call His Name jesus. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God shall give unto Him the throne of His father David. And He shall reign over the House of Jacob forever; and of Hir. Kingdom there shall be no end (luke i:31 This Kingdom will have the Lord Jesus Christ for its sovereign (isa. Ix:6, Jerusa lem will be its earthly center (is. Ii:3), the House of Jacob will be its immediate subjects (luke i233), though the whole earth and its inhabi tants will be subject to its rule (zech. Xiv:16). Synopsis My Kingdom of Heaven (Classic Reprint) by : Peter Rosegger

Excerpt from My Kingdom of Heaven I Believe! Those were the first words I said on this earth. But I said them at a time when I could not speak, and at a time when I could not believe - as a newborn infant. I then took upon myself a serious vow to resist the devil and to believe in God as the Almighty Creator and Redeemer. By this vow I received baptism, and became a Christian. Is that a legal compact? I ask the lawyers who, in matters relating to the law, require a personal affirmation and signature; I ask the moralists who, in regard to all human acts, good and bad, take consciousness and free-will for granted. I ask: Is it a legal compact that the Church makes with the ignorant child? Nay, I do not consider that to be binding which my godfather promised on my behalf. I could not believe solely, because he affirmed in my name: "I believe." About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
